I broke away from the party to post one last post of 2009 tonight.
With the world celebrating it's New Year across the globe, one has to wonder of just what next year will bring? We all have our fears and concerns of this world. But we should never forget who our friends are.
When you hear the words of Auld Lang Syne being played across the globe, think and pray for a moment for all your family and friends that have gone to eternity. Think of those of your friends who have broken up with you for various reasons. Some of those reasons should involve in sitting down to talk and straighten out a problem. Some of you should re-consider to reconnect in 2010 and see if friendship can be saved.
In the present moment, we thank, love, and cherish those who we have in our lives.
In the future moment, think of all those who may come back into our lives unexpectedly. Even strangers who become new friends.
What ever 2010 bring us.. may it be a safe year as ever.

Farewell to Davila, Hello Hurwitz!
G'day Everyone.
As the end of the transition time for Gallaudet University President's office reaches it's conclusions, so does it mark an end to the many troublesome years that have gone on the campus.
Dr. Robert Davila has been honored, gifted, wined and dined, and made to look like he was "the savior of Gallaudet Univeristy" that rescued the campus from the protesters. As he rides off into the December 2009 sunset and back to his waiting days of retirement, here comes Dr. Alan Hurwitz!
Dr. Hurwitz comes in to a time of which he must be very careful. His focus will be divided between his loyal ties to NTID/Rochester area, but he must put his true focus on Gallaudet University.
There are some of us that do not like the GU BoTs that went for Hurwitz, after many times that Dr. Hurwitz said "no!". But now, it is curious to wonder if the GU BoTs have made a "good investment" of the next 5 years of "their choice" of President? Only when the next 5 years comes to pass, we'll cheer if good things have happened. If not, well, I'm not going there... yet.
For now, the attention now shifts to NTID. NTID has to look for a new President of their own. NTID alumni, that learned from all of the GU "search committees", will be very watchful of NTID's process. No doubt that the RIT BoTs will be very involved and watching things very closely. We should hope that NTID will keep an open mind for ANY CANDIDATE with the background in Deaf Education and the knowledge of Sign Language. With thousands of people out of work in our nation, NTID should not limit to one particular group, such as GU has done in searching for "their candidate".
NTID's days of search has started. I hope will be a careful and fruitful 2010 for them.
GU's days of the Hurwitz era has begun.
On both deaf campuses of the college communities, 2010 will mark the turning of the next chapter in their history. Let's hope it's a good beginning.

Resolutions of 2010
G'day Everyone.
Three days to 2010. 2009 is running fast to it's very end already. As we measure the days, it will soon turn to a matter of hours.
Traditionally, we all make our resolutions in order to make our new year seem more of a challenge than doing a big oldie "*yawn* so what new year" stuff.
My resolutions for 2010.
1. Mind, body, heath. That is to say, next year will be the year you'll find me in the local fitness club being a gym rat. I avoided the gym for a long time because I've hated it. Unfortunately, people do, like me, pay the price for it. So, it will be an exercise year for me. Losing the weight in 2010 is the best thing to do. May be you will want to be a gym rat too to be in shape.
2. Job searching. Like many people out there, everyone is job searching harder than ever before. It puts a strain on the local employers of trying to match up to the right candidate. While it has been a good 2009 to be a deaf Santa, I need a full time job instead. I am sure many are making that resolution very much.
3.Prepare for life changes. 2010 isn't going to be an easy year for many of us. While the nation got rocked with incoming President Obama, there is a sense that 2010 will bring change to many people's lives. We should be prepared for anything that can and will happen. It won't be easy. But we should keep our eyes open.
4. More Friends, less enemies. 2010 will be the year that I want more friends in my life. 2009 saw the shedding of some friends that I have. But, I will be looking for a person who betrayed me and my former best friend of mine. What did this person do to me? I can't say. But I can tell you that if he's reading this, he may want to get in touch with me ASAP before I find him and come down on him HARD!
I really don't know what 2010 will bring. But, we can all wish things will go well.
So if you are going to party on NEW YEAR'S EVE, please party happy but safely. Police will be patrolling the roads as usual.
God bless to each and everyone of you. If you travel via plane, make the extra time and give patience. I hope you all a safe travel.

The Year in Review 2009
G'day Everyone.
Just like Clint Eastwood's movie: The Good, The Bad, and the ugly. I can only sum up this year of 2009 in just two words: Bad and Ugly.
(The Good)
So far, the controversal election of Gallaudet President Hurwitz is behind us. While no protests has broken out over it, but it brings to a conclusion of the years of Doctor Davila. I still consider Davila an interm President and should have never been made our 9th President of GU because of the hasty short search. Never the less, the BoTs did of what they did. As Dr. Davila steps away from the University and back into retirement, Dr. Hurwitz steps in to replace him. In some ways, it was a right farewell reception for Davila to thank him for all that he's done for Gallaudet.
But Hurwitz should focus more on GU than he is doing already. NTID has just begun their next search for their leader and of course, RIT is watching closely. Let's hope NTID does a better search than Gallaudet has in 2010.
(The Bad)
Speaking of Presidents, our nation welcomed in this year of the New President of USA: President Barack Obama, the nation has struggled since then. For a while, we thought many of the messes by former President Bush would get cleaned up and we'd move on to better things. It hasn't happened.
Since then our president has been on a spending spree that is starting to make us being concerned. Some people said that we could have been better off with old ticker John McCain. Only if McCain hasn't selected the hockey welding mom of : Sarah "Going Rouge" Palin, he might actually had won the election with someone else!
But now we are on the cusp of President Obama's year 2. Let's hope he performs better because if not, the November elections will tell how his "report card" will be.
Where's Bill Clinton when we do need him now?
(The Ugly)
Deaths and farewells:
We said our good-byes to many people this year. The shock of it was Michael Jackson. Soon, we should know if his doctor made a mistake. If he did, there will be a court trial later.
Don't forget that Farrah Fawcett shares the same day that Michael Jackson died. It is sad to see this wonderful woman pass away on the same day as MJ. It makes you wonder.
Edward "Teddy" Kennedy. It was last January that Ted Kennedy fell ill. God had given his family and all of us the chance to prepare and to be ready for the day Kennedy passed on. When it came, there was not a dry eye in the nation for this statesman. Kennedy was truly a man that cared for people.
Roy Disney also left this year.
Evangelist Oral Roberts passed on to his "reward".
The most funniest and very comic actor, Soupy Sales passed on.
The best of the best in acting, Patrick Swayze went on to being (of all things) a ghost. (hopefully in Heaven he is!)
My favorite news caster: Walter Cronkite. He always had it right at the end: That's the way it is!
Can't believe that Billy Mays is gone. Still shocked by that.
If there was a super prize waiting out there, Ed McMahon has collected it. Publisher's clearing house is still looking for their next great spokesperson!
Bow to the "master of Kung-fu". Remember David Carradine. I'm still concerned for the way he died.
Funny man Dom DeLuise went on and may be giving God some trouble. Never mess with an angry italian like Dom!
These are just a few that I noticed. It is heart breaking to hear of many people passing on this year and we know death won't stop until the day the Lord God takes over the earth.
(and uglier still)
With the job market still not in hiring mode, I have heard that many companies are still laying off people. People are worried very much. Some are concerned they won't have a roof over their heads. The number of homeless people is going up. The same is with violent crime.
Personally, it has been a rough year. I have lost a few friends and I have gained a few friends. I am most thankful to many close friends that have assured me that no matter what, they will be my friend.
As the year 2009 comes to a close, so must it come with some resolutions for 2010. Those resolutions will be posted soon.
Please have a wonderful and safe week.

Where does Santa Go after hearing kids?
G'day Everyone.
This one touched my heart and gave the right idea that Santa Claus is not higher than Jesus Christ.
Link: http://www.ireport.com/docs/DOC-374175
This individual had the right idea at this time of the year. Though Christmas day is far spent right now, but it would give Santa some moment to pause somewhere on earth, thanking God for the safe night, safe flight, and praying for many of the kids who were naughty and kids would couldn't get what they wanted. Santa would be mortal, just like everyone else is. He doesn't live forever. There's always someone would be willing to step in and be that person just once a year.
So at the end of this Christmas day, I hope and pray many of you have gotten what you wanted. Some didn't get what you want. Others still hope and dream of the future. But, do Thank God on this Christmas night for Jesus Christ, the savior that came to walk among us more than 2000 years ago.
I want to extend many thanks to many people who became Santa or deaf Santa to many people out there in their area. Consider it an honor to do this seasonal job.
Enjoy the New Year.

ALERT! ALERT! Deaf Teen missing! Please Help!
G'day Everyone.
Breaking news and I hate to break in on this day of Christmas, but the information is HOT and *IMPORTANT*! A Deaf Teenager is missing in Rockville, Md. The local police need help. I'm asking my readers in Washington, DC to please go right to the news article:
http://wtop.com/?nid=25&sid=1849440
Please help us bring a miracle and this person home safe and sound on this Christmas day!
And for my readers along the east coast, please be careful of this massive winter storm that is about to hit in many places. Some will get snow. Most of it could be ice and most could be rain too. Whatever it is, it's an ugly weather that is leaving Christmas transportation a mess!
Please enjoy this holiday with your family and friends. God Bless you.

Christmas 2009
G'day Everyone.
It's Christmas eve. Today I make my traditional post and be off my blog for a while, but may post as I see fit.
I don't know if you have followed custody battles of parents in the news lately, but there is one that captured my eye.
David Goldman has battled his ex-wife's family from Brazil for many years in the efforts to gain back custody of his son, Sean Goldman. After nearly 5 years years, it is finally nearing conclusion. According to the facebook posting, David will not feel safe until he and Sean are up in the air and back in New Jersey. Latest post on CNN: http://www.cnn.com/2009/WORLD/americas/12/24/brazil.custody/index.html
Sean will face years of counseling and reconnecting with his father. Obviously, his mother, who died in Brazil, is in hell and paying for her crimes. Some would say "all is well that ends well". Not always. Sean's future is just a little more complicated. He's going to wish his mom never took him away from his dad.
But Sean, that comes home safe from a kidnapping, is just one victory to happen. There are thousands of kids, who have been kidnapped by the other parent and taken out of the country into a nation that is not theirs, are still out there. Some have been kept away from the other parent for many years. What is their future? Only God knows.
So on this Christmas eve, I ask you for a favor out there. If you plan to attend Christmas church services tonight, I ask you in a very simple way: Please send up a prayer for many of these kidnapped children. Ask God to give them strength to face the challenges that they are going through. Ask of God to soften the heart of the parent to allow their kid to go to the other parent. Remember to thank God in prayer that many people have played a part to bring Sean Goldman home.
Please have a wonderful and Safe Christmas. Watch the weather and please drive carefully. Remember, police will be watching the road for many violations.

MSU to cut Deaf Education?
G'day Everyone.
Economic recession. State budget problems. Tuitions rise. Students attendances falls.
These are what impacts on colleges and universities as they consider cutting their budget expenses.
But the latest hit is happening at the Michigan State University. Link: http://www.statenews.com/index.php/article/2009/12/university_should_rethink_decision_to_cut_deaf_education
I should say that we, the deaf community, should show support for the deaf students that attend MSU and help save the Deaf Education program. God knows that we need more teachers for the deaf out there. At the same time, there's almost not enough teachers out there to go around.
So please, show support for Deaf Education at MSU! I say to MSU: Don't cut Deaf Education!

Christmas Wishes 2009.
G'day Everyone.
Traditionally, I'd do my wishes on the night before Christmas. But I do know that I will be busy that day with many things going on. That will cap with a Christmas service at a local church.
So, here are my Christmas wishes:
1. Unspoken Christmas wishes. There are many that I do not make public and yet they are wishes that fly to God and given to him to answer. Do I expect any Christmas miracles? No. I'm just at peace to know they'll be answered in His time.
2. Christmas blessings for my readers and friends. I have asked of God to bless you this Christmas in a very special way.
3. My hopes and dreams were of a job to happen this Christmas. I needed a full-time job. But the part time Deaf Santa job really helped make my year. I've been invited to do it again next year if I'm around.
4. If I ever think of anything else, it'll be a Christmas surprise for me.
The list is short this year compared to many children that have had long lists. I wish all of you a safe and merry Christmas. If you do get a white Christmas, remember to Thank God for it.
P.S. Please be careful on the DAY AFTER Christmas sales. (picking up new shoppers armor). I think it'll be one busy Saturday this year.

Winter 2009/ Viable says "NOT GUILTY"
G'day Everyone.
Snow or no snow, winter has finally arrived today. As the seasons change and Christmas is close by, it is really a holiday time now. It is now the last 3 days to Christmas eve and many people will be rushing to do last minute shopping. Hope everyone will be careful because in many places, it's still snow and cold.
Most of you are still digging out from the recent snow storm so be careful how you do it. Some snows that are so heavy is called "heart attack snow" and that you do not need.
Meanwhile, the expected VRS court battle for Viable is just beginning with the opening shot of "Not Guilty". Just as it was expected. Link: http://www.gazette.net/stories/12182009/businew170546_32553.php.
I would advise many bloggers and vloggers to refrain from posting many stories on the whole VRS mess because the important people, like John Yeh, need to prepare for a good fight against the Government. Justice will be heard. Let's hope the truth comes out rightfully.

Santa Sadness
G'day Everyone.
Know what? Christmas is suppose to be a lot of fun this year. Especially at a time when you are trying to listen to many kids' wishes and hear their stories. Some times it's happy. Some times it's not. But the greatest sadness belongs to the 3 hearing women who kept me busy with the kids rather than taking time out to talk to these news people. I did warn them that they were coming. They came, the news people. I looked to these women to stop the line so I could talk to them.
Alas, they kept the line going. By the time the last child left, I looked for the news people. They were gone. I kept up the happy smiles till I got back to my mall change room. The women departed, leaving me to sit heavy in the chair and cry.
It was that night of Friday, I heard some children speak of jobs for their parents. Others asking for comfort of their parents that they are feeling the stress at this time of the year. I looked into their eyes and said "My dear child, God shall bring your parents comfort. I shall pray that He shall bless your parents with employment as a special gift that God can put under the tree for me". Some of these children left me with a sense of comfort that I would hold them up in prayer. I drove home emotionally exhausted.
In the next morning of Saturday and then Sunday, I looked for any news of Deaf Santa. There was nothing. What more could I have done? What more could I do?
As I look back on this experience this year in this job, it was an eye opening life for me. I don't know if I will repeat being deaf Santa next year. It will depend on where I am in 2010.
So, in one last Santa mode, I hope many of you will remain on the naughty...(whoops!)...I mean nice list this year. May you all get the wishes you want, the prayers be answered, and be filled with all the holiday cheer.
God bless you all and to all a good Christmas.

The Bill Clinton fall-out..AGAIN!
G'day Everyone.
The 1990s were gripped in the biggest Presidential scandal ever. It rocked the nation as President Bill Clinton, the guy who every one thought nothing would stick to him, had been impeached, tried, and found "innocent" in Congress. After that, some of the truth came out as too little too late. As I said of Vice President Al Gore, just so long ago, if he had distanced himself from Bill Clinton at the height of the scandal rather than appearing to be with Bill, Gore might had a chance to win the Presidential Election. It wasn't until 3 months before the vote that Gore decided to split from Bill Clinton's camp. It was too late. By then, the Election got tied up in many of the voting issues and the "chads" that simply hung on in various recounts. After all the mess was counted, Gore slipped away as Bush took over.
So much memories. But now they come back again. HOW?
http://www.politicsdaily.com/2009/12/18/monica-lewinsky-tells-author-of-impeachment-book-that-bill-clint/?icid=mainaimdl1link3http%3A%2F%2Fwww.politicsdaily.com%2F2009%2F12%2F18%2Fmonica-lewinsky-tells-author-of-impeachment-book-that-bill-clint%2F
It comes roaring back in this book! The book titled "The Death of American Virtue," by Ken Gormley, a Duquesne University law professor.
I believe many people with an interest in politics will want to buy this book. I might. Maybe Micah will too. But how will Clinton react as the truth is coming out? Maybe he will wish he hadn't lied so much. I wish we had a president like that would balance the budget and put our nation on it's path to greatness. Perhaps that's where Clinton did his best before his mess. Let's just hope Hillary doesn't make any more future messes.

One week to Fantastic Christmas
G'day Everyone.
One more week. One more weekend of Christmas deals by the major stores. One more week of shopping. One more week of Children to whisper their wishes to their Santa Claus. Especially to a Deaf Santa of which I will be doing at Lycoming Mall in Williamsport,PA tonight from 5 to 8pm.
More importantly, it's one more week of praying as there are some people facing some serious situations that need to have a Christmas miracle. Yes, there are some miracles that do happen during the holiday season. But, prayer isn't just through Christmas. It's also through the New Year too.
As I think of many people that need prayers, I am wishing many of my readers a very merry Christmas and a wonderful New Year. If you don't get your Christmas wishes answered, just do what I do: *charge music* DAY AFTER CHRISTMAS SHOPPING! :-) Some times there are better deals day after Christmas.
Enjoy the weekend.

The Phillies MOST STUPID MOVE OF ALL!
G'day Everyone!
May THOUSANDS UPON THOUSANDS TONS OF COAL FILL THE ENTIRE HOME OF THE PHILADELPHIA PHILLIES BASEBALL STADIUM!!
Why am I wishing this? READ: http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2009/writers/lee_jenkins/12/14/halladay.lackey/index.html?xid=cnnbin
First of all, the Phillies should have done one agenda this year: GET RID OF PEDRO "Who's your daddy?" Martinez. This baseball pitcher is the one that has betrayed the entire Phillies organization during the world series. He knew he caused controversy and at the same time, he didn't do his very best on the mound because he gave the Yankees a "GIFT". A GIFT that he helped win the Yankees win their world series. It's also clear he wanted to be a Yankees pitcher too. Well, He was dumped and away. None too soon.
Second, The Phillies are making their second mistake of year. Giving away Cliff Lee to the Seattle Mariners in a huge trade that gains them Roy Halladay. What happens if it turns out to be a very bad idea? If I were the General manager and the coach of the Phillies, I'd do everything in my power to keep CLIFF LEE right where I want him and trade others to get Halladay.
But alas, if this deal goes through, *sigh*... The Phillies had better enjoy all that coal for the rest of the season till spring training hits. They better hope that Roy Halladay was the best deal they could get by letting Cliff Lee go. If they're wrong on Halladay, every game in 2010 will be a chorus of BOOS and fans will remind the Phillies the Lee was the better man they let go.
As baseball teams make their trades, they better hope that spring training will be good in the coming season of baseball. Hopefully less drugs, but more honest pitching/games for MLB.
Farewell, Cliff Lee. Always remember, yer the best Phillies player we ever had! You shouldn't have to go, but we hope you will return some day.

One more Deaf Santa Show.
G'day Everyone!
In just 2 more days, I will have one more Deaf Santa show to do and then it's done for the year. I consider it an honor and kindness to do something for the kids of the Deaf Community at this time of the year. It will take place on Friday, December 18th from 5 to 8pm at the Lycoming Valley Mall in Williamsport, PA. I'm hope that a little Public Relations by the mall will have a newspaper reporter to come out and do something on Thursday that will make Friday's edition. But lately, I've seen my local newspaper do reports AFTER the events have happened. I must admit that is more sad than not reporting the news of events before they happen.
At my last event on December the 5th, I sat for 3 hours of hearing these kids talk about the things they want which range from the hottest toys to the latest fashion fads. But, most of them do ask for one thing: Jobs for their mother and father. It hits home of just how many people are out of work and how much the parents are trying to make the sacrifice to give their children a happy Christmas. I commend them, the parents, for their heartfelt actions that they are trying to show their children of what it means of Christmas, love. I sincerely hope they can do what they can to give their kids the best of Christmas. I expect I'll be hearing more of the same on December 18th in the evening from these kids.
Today, it marks that there are 10 shopping days left to Christmas. There are 21 days left in the year. It will be next week that I will post my Christmas wishes. I have already sent out my Christmas cards for the year and that's done.
But for my readers: I wish you all a wonderful Christmas. Shop carefully, look for bargains. But of course, the second Christmas day begins when it's WHITE day: Day after Christmas sales. For the stores: The dreaded returns begins!! *UGH*.

Questions about Hurwitz.
Today's post is an OPINION. Thank you.
G'day Everyone.
There are two polls at the side of my blog. So before you vote, read the link below:
This article appeared being splashed across the Rochester news papers on Sunday, Dec 13, 2009:
http://www.democratandchronicle.com/article/20091213/NEWS01/912130347
Another source nearly asks the same identical questions as Democrat and Chronicle did:
http://deafnation.com/blog/qa-with-alan-hurwitz
Now these are two polls are open till December 31, 2009 midnight.
First question is: Did the 3 previous candidates have a chance for the Gallaudet University President position? Why did I post that question? Quote: " In fact, Gallaudet's offer sent his life into turmoil this past summer. He hadn't applied for the presidency, intending to finish his career at NTID. But Gallaudet wouldn't take no for an answer." : unquote. (Note: when they say Gallaudet, it's in reference to the GU Board of Trustees and PSAC). Thus, was the process unfair then to the other 3 candidates? Possible. But let's hear it for the poll later.
Second question asks of where should Hurwitz put his focus since he wants to remain in the Rochester area.
So like I said in the moments after the selection was announced last October,
http://thedeafsherlock.blogspot.com/2009/10/questions-arise-in-selection-of-hurwitz.html
I knew there would be questions. The greatest question is: Does Hurwitz wants to move to DC or remain in Rochester? He has to make a choice. He can't have it all. I hope he will make an intelligent decision to do what's best for himself and for Gallaudet. As I said before, he is the better man for NTID than Gallaudet.
Enjoy the polls.

Another Governor's mess and woods in trouble woods.
G'day Everyone.
What a mess. Another Governor's life a mess. Not too long ago, The Governor of NY: Eliot Spritzer, was in a mess over some hooker. He stepped down from his job before it got worse on himself.
Now, a Governor in South Carolina is in ANOTHER MESS. Link: http://www.cnn.com/2009/POLITICS/12/11/sanford.divorce/index.html
When his mystery trip broke several months ago and revealed about his affair, I did say that the poor guy was living on borrowed time politically. Well, the poor guy got lucky enough that some of his loyal ranks managed to diffuse the impeachment process but most likely will be censured for sure. But unfortunately, he should have known his wife would eventually hit him with the personal bomb of all. Divorce.
And if you want to know more about the soon-to-be-ex-wife of Sanford, link:
http://news.yahoo.com/s/time/08599194730500
I have to admire this wonderful lady after all. Why did Sanford toss her for someone else? Makes you wonder.
So how much of a political future does Governor Sanford have to lead his State of South Carolina? Nothing more than a thimble in his political pocket. Gov. Sanford will be on the defense for most of the year 2010. But if he was wise and doing the right thing for his state, just like Eliot Spitzer did, he would step down and take care of his own personal life for a while. But a man like Sanford that plans to stay till the bitter end will be his own 2010 reckoning.
I'd wish Sanford some thimble luck, but the way I figure, just about any Santa Claus will dump some coal on his home this year. May be a few THOUSAND tons? That'll keep Sanford warm for a long, long while.
Meanwhile, Tiger Woods is in Trouble Woods. Link: http://www.cnn.com/2009/US/12/11/tiger.woods.golf.break/index.html
Perhaps Tiger Woods is more wise and responsible to know when to step away from the game he loves and get some help for himself for a while. I most certainly hope that Tiger Woods will come back to his game when he's ready. But for now, the Golf world will most likely calm down and play the game it always has. I wish you much luck, Tiger Woods.
So, with coal being handed politically out in some places, Christmas isn't far away. It is now 12 days to Christmas eve.

Snowball fight on campus? Drop it or be sued!
G'day Everyone.
It's a winter time tradition. Snowball fighting. The joy of rolling the snow into a ball and having a physical fun time to throw it. Just like it's been posted on CNN: http://www.ireport.com/docs/DOC-367071
Only one problem. Ever stare down at the barrel of gun being held a campus safety officer and being told to drop it? Yep. It happens. Some colleges and universities consider a snowball a projectile weapon that can be used to cause harm. Campus police are often called upon to break up even the smallest snowball fights going on. When they do, the people involved get sent to a hearing where they'll face charges.
There's a reason why. Colleges and Universities are afraid of being sued if someone seriously gets hurt during a snow ball fight. That's why lawyers are always ready to step in if someone does.
A friend of mine told me that when he was in college, snowball fights were the norm on his college campus. But one person felt threatened so much of snowballs, she decided to report it. It turned the school to be against students from throwing snowballs from then on. That person later realized her mistake and tried to undo it. Unfortunately, the school wouldn't budge their position. She later had to transfer away to finish her studies. To this day, she still regrets her decision to report it.
I enjoyed snowball battles when I was a kid in the neighborhood. Snowball wars were the best past times. If someone got hurt, we'd all band together and help that person home. Some times it's bumps and bruises. A few of us have had broken arms, legs, and the usual sick days. But, we were friends and having a joy of friendship in a snow ball war.
If I could today, I'd invite all my friends to a snowball war in which we just enjoy for fun, then have an evening bonfire that has marshmallows (toasted by the fire) and hot chocolate. But that is just a dream.
So, if you have a snowball fight out there today, play safe. Make it enjoyable. Just don't pack the snow ball hard. OK? And by the way, if you really want some defense in a snow ball war, build a good strong snow fort!

Playing a game on Facebook? There's trouble!
G'day Everyone.
Well, the evil game gremlins waited till the holidays to hit us with the worst possible news. Facebook.com does have trouble with the game related applications out there.
Link: http://www.walletpop.com/blog/2009/12/10/trouble-in-farmville-facebook-gaming-company-face-class-action/?ncid=webmaildl2
I like some of the games on Facebook, but right now this is about the worst time it could happen for the social media site. So, if you are like me, becareful of what ads you click on in Facebook.com. One should hope that Facebook takes a good lesson that not every advertisement site is always an honest site. Facebook developers should have researched every ad before they posted them. So let's hope Facebook has a good lawyer and defends themselves well in court. I like the social network site very well, but they can do more to improve it.

Concerns for the FUTURE OF VRS.
G'day Everyone.
Video Relay Services. VRS. A way of life in communication for the deaf community in the last several years that has made it a bit easier to make relay calls. A video service as opposed to TTY services. For many of us, we had taken life for granted in our deaf community.
Until the Federal Government stepped in and indicted some people in a huge scam that has rocked the deaf community across the nation.
When I was doing web surfing through Deafness.about.com today, it caught my eye of of the following post : http://deafness.about.com/b/2009/12/03/major-changes-in-vrs-coming.htm .
As I read that post and recalling the indictments, I went to the FCC site to see what's going on. Note: make sure you have a program that opens your PDF files.
http://hraunfoss.fcc.gov/edocs_public/attachmatch/DOC-294966A1.pdf
I seriously think the FCC is going to put pressure on VRS providers and it will become a make or break situation as new rules go into effect. Does it hurt with the indictments were handed out? Did some people get greedy to hurt the deaf community and try to trick the Government?
Generally to say, there's going to be a lot of discussion in the coming months as well as the court trial that involves these men.
How much of a change will we see of our VRS as a result of the FCC action? It depends on what's being done to improve honesty of the relay services. Let's hope it's not a drastic change, but an improvement for the future of VRS.

Randy Dunham art, Sherlock Movie coming! Caption Action 2.
G'day Everyone.
Are you searching for the PERFECT Christmas gift? A Christmas gift that is DEAF related? Then look no farther if you want something nice and visual to grace your wall. Go to this site:
http://www.randydunham.com/
Randy Dunham has been a long time good friend of mine. His art work is high quality and unique. He makes them all by his own hands. If you plan to order art work from Randy, please give him time. Some graphics are available. Some are not. I have seen his work in person before. He truly has a very unique gift. So get his deaf art. SPREAD the word. Bookmark Randy Dunham's art site and enjoy.
Meanwhile, coming this Christmas 2009, there is a new movie coming out. It's Sherlock Holmes. I've seen the trailers and believe me, the actions in the movie are worth the money you pay to watch the movie. Too bad it's not me. But based on the book by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. Enjoy watching!
Lately, I do support caption action 2. While we're pushing for captions of tv and movies on the Internet, I seriously think we should expand to include movies on DVD. Lately, I brought some new movies and when I started it up, I looked for the closed captioning. The closed captioning didn't happen. I was pissed. So I turned on the subtitles. Almost good as it was for closed captioning, it still left me unhappy with how the movie and dvd makers are short changing the deaf community from being able to watch movies at home. We shouldn't be short changed here. But what can we do? For starters, we need more supporters for Caption Action 2. Go to the website: http://captionaction2.blogspot.com/ and register today to show support for Caption Action 2!

The New BCS mess just made.
G'day Everyone.
The college football world is abuzz on this Quarterback Monday. The Bowl Championship Series finally posted who plays who. The results are UGLY! Iowa, which PSU wants a match up so badly, is playing else where.
So who does PSU play? LSU. http://rivals.yahoo.com/ncaa/football/news?slug=ap-capitalonebowl&prov=ap&type=lgns It'll be the capital one game on January 1, 2010. Expect PSU to wipe out LSU promptly off the field.
So where are the dreaded Iowa Hawkeyes going? Well, BCS muddled that too. They're being sent to the ORANGE Bowl where they'll face Georgia Tech Bulldogs. In my opinion, that's the worst decision that BCS made. BCS could have made a better game and higher TV ratings had they put a Iowa vs Penn State game rematch. Thus, the mess will insure that there'll be a LOUDER call in the coming months for a play-off system to be in place later.
Meanwhile, the disgraced Florida Coach Bobby Bowden will finish his last game at the Gator Bowl. It seems that BCS decided to give the scandal ridden Bowden a kink in his finale game. They're playing against the West Virginia Mountaineers. With Bowden's 14 games still up to an NCAA decision, I'm backing West Virginia to go and WIN against Bowden. After all, West Virginia deserves to dish some revenge back at him. Good luck Mountaineers.
But, after Florida's last game, will Coach Fisher straighten out the team and set them on some honest football path? Only the future of next season will certainly tell.
Pittsburgh is losing steel heart for the play-offs. The Eagles may wing it in. But, will there be a good play-off match up? We shall soon see.

Deaf Santa!
G'day Everyone.
Lycoming Valley Mall yesterday had a very low key day for Deaf Santa. While it wasn't so actively announced in the news, I was kind of ticked about it. Though, I'm giving some insight to the key people to make it more possible for more of the deaf and disabled community to be involved in this.
Dressing up yesterday was a lot of fun. But the suit was warm and stuffy. I gained a lot of Christmas Spirit in talking with many kids that showed up. Many of the hearing, deaf, and disabled kids showed up.
There were a few unique moments in being Deaf Santa. I had a young disabled man come up to me and hug me 3 times. He was overjoyed to see his Santa. There were two WILD girls that came up and SAT on my lap for a picture. I kind of surprised that happen. But believe me, 3 hours in that chair went by fairly quickly. By the time the beard was choking me, I had to call it over early and by the time I got back to the room, I ripped it off. I was more than glad to do the Santa stuff. To me, it was just another day of a show on the theater stage.
The next show will be on December 18th from 5-8 at the Lycoming Valley Mall.
So, It's been a wonderful experience for me. But will I get to do it more often next year? Maybe, if I get to stay in the area and I land a local job. Who knows what Christmas 2010 will bring?
Till next post, may there be many Christmas blessing and wishes for you all. Ho ho ho!

Bloggers Speech of Rights?
G'day Everyone.
My Gosh. Is Rick Klau nuts? If that's for sure, read first:
http://www.cnn.com/2009/TECH/11/30/commentary.klau.blogging/index.html
Then his home page: http://tins.rklau.com/2009/12/defending-bloggers-free-speech.html
But, first amendment aside, we have seen among both hearing and deaf blogspheres of what can happen out there. The right and power of Free Speech is one thing. But blogging should also be a privilege, not just a right to have.
Some times, I've seen the power of blogging and vlogging go to people's heads out there. What Rick Klau forgets is that bloggers, like every other journal publication out there, can be taken to the cleaners (aka the courts) if abuse of a blog or vlog happens. We do know that this is possible.
Just like we are a group of people with various articles in our posts, we have a rather large competition for readers to follow us. How much long could it be before we replace the daily newspapers or the postal service for the world of the Internet ? NOT LONG!
We should all enjoy the right of blogging and bring some opinions to our readers. But if we abuse this right and then the law will restrict us of what we can do and say. That isn't good to do.
So while in this season of the holiday, let's enjoy what we do and spread the cheer. Happy blogging out there!

Cold daze
G'day Everyone.
It's a cold day outside, but I'm warm by the "fireplace". My laptop that acts like a "fireplace". Nice and warm. Today is World AIDS day. Today is a day to remember how many friends that we have lost to AIDS out there. Education is the key and so is showing support for safe sex as well. I hope you will take it as a day to remember people in prayer.
It makes me wonder of just how fast the government can rush in a swine flu shot when they're not rushing in an AIDS shot to help people dying from this disease that has been around since the 1980s. We still must hope that some day our government will come around and create a medicine that will either cure, or slow the AIDS disease. Drug companies must not make a profit on sick people.
Lately the news that involves Tiger Wood's car accident and the DC couple that crashed the Obama's State Dinner astounds me. While the outrage grows over both cases, it seems more likely that the DC couple that crashed the White House Party will face some serious charges.
Sad to hear: Norte Dame fired Charlie Weis from his coaching job. Perhaps the Fighting Irish do need fresh blood and fresh perspective after all.
Joe Pa is waiting as the rest of us PSU fans are doing. Waiting to hear the word of WHERE PSU will play in what bowl game and against who it will be. Like I have said my dream before: I want PSU to have a RE-MATCH with the Iowa Hawkeyes! Quarterback Clark needs a chance to redeem himself for once against Iowa. If the Bowl Championship Series (the damn BCS system) doesn't grant that, then the future of college football could happen some day.
Meanwhile, drivers in the State of PA and visitors passing through should take a lot of care on the roads as Deer Season opened yesterday. Right now, the deers are running for their lives in the day and trying to run back to their grounds at night. In saying that, deer related car accidents are bound to happen more often for a while. So please, take good care while driving. Be ready for those deers.
For me, it has been my big wish to go back hunting again out there. But nobody wants to take me and I'm left out of the joy of hunting. I miss those days when it's been a thrill to go after a buck or a two. Only way for me to cope this deer season? Break out the computer game that involve deer hunting. :-)
So have a great week. Don't forget: Deaf Santa at the Lycoming Mall THIS SATURDAY, December 5th!
