G'day Everyone.
Video Relay Services. VRS. A way of life in communication for the deaf community in the last several years that has made it a bit easier to make relay calls. A video service as opposed to TTY services. For many of us, we had taken life for granted in our deaf community.
Until the Federal Government stepped in and indicted some people in a huge scam that has rocked the deaf community across the nation.
When I was doing web surfing through Deafness.about.com today, it caught my eye of of the following post : http://deafness.about.com/b/2009/12/03/major-changes-in-vrs-coming.htm .
As I read that post and recalling the indictments, I went to the FCC site to see what's going on. Note: make sure you have a program that opens your PDF files.

I seriously think the FCC is going to put pressure on VRS providers and it will become a make or break situation as new rules go into effect. Does it hurt with the indictments were handed out? Did some people get greedy to hurt the deaf community and try to trick the Government?
Generally to say, there's going to be a lot of discussion in the coming months as well as the court trial that involves these men.
How much of a change will we see of our VRS as a result of the FCC action? It depends on what's being done to improve honesty of the relay services. Let's hope it's not a drastic change, but an improvement for the future of VRS.
Semper FI.
