G'day Everyone!
I couldn't believe in shock that Dr. Alan Hurwitz was selected for the President of Gallaudet University! The National Technical Institute for the Deaf (NTID) at Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) has just lost a wonderful leader on their campus. I can imagine the *SHOCK* that students are feeling that NTID will soon be going through their own process of finding the next Director / Leader of NTID.
But now, I want to question why the Board of Trustees of GU would hire ANOTHER administrator that has experience of NTID/RIT? It is very questionable. Is there a connection between NTID/RIT and GU? Was a deal made for some reason that Hurwitz was selected?
Honestly, the best candidate that should have been chosen was Dr. ROSLYN Rosen.
But it will be debated for ages to come of who should have been the next President of GU.
For now, it is time for the Students, staff, Professors, and Alumni of NTID to start looking hard and questioning to Dr. Hurwitz when he returns to NTID of why he wants to leave NTID. Hopefully, Hurwitz will defend his decision well to everyone, as well as the RIT Board of Trustees.

Let's hope the reactions from the Students and alumni will stay calm and quiet as we approach the GU Homecoming 2009.

I also was surprised that Dr. Hurwitz was selected to be the next president of Gallaudet University. I also thought that Dr. Rosen would be the next president. But…
Come on, get a grip.
It is very common for the scholars and administrators to change from one university to other university. There are million reasons for changing to other college or university. I will feel sad to see Dr. Hurwitz leaving NTID but it is very wrong of us if we try to tether him to NTID. Let him do his best to better the lives of the deaf and hard-of-hearing people in the world. Also, he is opening a rare opportunity for other people to take his position at NTID.

yeah.. but like I said, it's questionable why 2 administrators coming one after another from the same previous university.
Even though it needs to be accepted, it depends on how many dual alumnis (NTID/GU alumni) feel about hurwitz being the next president.
I think everyone's going to have to take a HUGE breather and see how we all respond now that it's over at GU, but just beginning at NTID now.
I think that it is only a coincidence that the current and next presidents of Gallaudet University came from RIT/NTID. There is no need to create any conspiracy theory about the connection between two presidents.
For sure, it is going to be both exciting and anxious times for NTID as who will be the next person to occupy the position of Dr. Hurwitz. Who knows that someone from Gallaudet University will occupy his position? :-)

I was also surprised that Alan became the next president of Gally. I thought that Dr. Roz was the prime candidate. Alan is a good leader but he doesnt like to change that much when he manages NTID. Alan has a close relationship with NAD, CSD with Ben and Bob Davila. We will see then... .
Anything wrong with picking from NTID? Alan Hurwitz applied for
the position and the Board of
Trustees looked at all the
Candidates equally. They felt
that Alan Hurwitz was the right
candidate to be the right person
to be the 10th President of Gallaudet. Your concern should have
been a part of the Board of Trustees worry prior to pick Alan
Hurwitz. I don't think any member
of the Board of Trustees made that
an issue prior to pick Alan Hurwitz. I suggest we give Alan
Hurwitz a chance as maybe he has
plenty of ideas to help Gallaudet
University because a better University. The Board of Trustees and the Department of Education is watching him. If he messes up big
time at Gallaudet, then we know
the Board of Trustees picked the
wrong person to lead Gallaudet
University.
Sam,
I understand your emotions. Perhaps you'd like to do homework on Dr. Rosen's history with CSD and NAD.
Who knows Dr. Rosen might get her chance to lead on Kendall Green if Dr. Hurwitz choses to move on after his 5.5-year term.
As a graduate of RIT, I laud the choice of Dr. Alan Hurwitz as the next president of Gallaudet University. I certainly do hope that he will be able to pull up the graduation rate of the Gallaudet University students and make it comparable to the current graduation rate of the NTID/RIT students.
