Economic Fears?

G'day Everyone (sort of, for most people).

I've been in contact with many of my deaf friends and I've been hit by full spectrum of reactions from many of them. Some feel happy that Wall Street is being punished for it's own corporate GREED and many of the bad Financial decisions.
Others feel really bad because if the financial firms take it out on investors, even on people who have a huge 401k saved up, will be creating an economic PAIN for others to feel after the market corrects itself.

What I have found that most are my christian friends believe we are heading right into the END OF DAYS to come as if this Economic disaster was foretold to come to pass. Some are repenting left and right about what they have been in the last several years. Some are giving up and becoming something that God wants them to be. For pastors, they're shouting "thank God I have my PERFECT CONGREGATION AT LAST! THANKS GOD FOR THE BAILOUT MESS!!". I say to the pastors in mock tone: "yeah, right, just wait.. you may just fall (lose your job) today. Or worse yet, if you say something about the coming political elections, expect a visit from the IRS to tell you that your "tax exemption" is gone.".

*HUGE SIGH* What a crazy roller coaster world we live in these days. As today is the End of September 2008, Tomorrow starts the month of October. What do we expect to see happen during this month of October? Plenty. With so many things going on, just take it day-by-day.
As I said before, Call your financial counselor before making any financial decisions.

Hopefully, the bailout failure will give congress time to process of what's going on and that they'll work on a better bill to protect consumers. But will this Economic situation hurt Obama and McCain? I think so.

Hey, get ready for the Vice Presidential debate on Thursday night. While Biden and Palin are being given a *CRASH COURSE* on how to handle themselves in the debate, I have no doubt that Palin is going to lose. There's been a lot of discussion that Palin might be let go and McCain would replace her with a STRONGER VP candidate. Who would McCain choose if he reacts to the VP debate loss? I don't want to know. But do make your popcorn and drinks and get ready for laughs. Anything goes in the VP debate. The only ugly question is..which one will take over "Darth Cheney's cape"? (scary music plays). Humm we have the whole month of October to figure it out.

Last but not least, if you haven't registered to VOTE, Get your fanny moving! Get REGISTERED TO VOTE TODAY! For pete's sakes, if you don't, you'll miss out on history.

The Future in Doubt/ Micah's blog.

G'day everyone.

I don't know if you are talking to your own financial advisor right now. But many people should, RIGHT NOW! Know why? Because at this point, I sense the future is in doubt. At some point when the Bailout package gets through congress (loaded with compromises and pork barrel projects),

UPDATE: EMERGENCY UPDATE:

I was doing this earlier this morning when I got called away to do something. When I came back home, I turned on to CNN and sat watching as one of my most BIGGEST FEARS GOT CONFIRMED.
The do nothing congress listened to the their own guts and have decided that their jobs were important to their ass covering fannies! So they decided on one course of action to SLAP OUR PRESIDENT back in the face: NO BAILOUT! They rejected it.

As I watch the markets, it's bad. People are selling what they can get rid of stocks. After the final bell closed, I watched the numbers slide down saying it drops more than 777 points(final adjustment after checking CNN)! I felt in HORROR of what's happening!

Politically, Obama must be holding his head in shame. Bully McCain for a Debate, winning that, and now? He ought to have his head looked at carefully. Obama should have done what every other political person had done, WORK ON THE BAILOUT, only to see it failed. Is this the man that won the debate, failing to work on the bailout, and he wants to be PRESIDENT?!?!?! Obama doesn't have my vote now. The debate shouldn't have happened UNTIL AFTER EVERYTHING IS SETTLED DOWN. Right now.. both Obama and McCain could be in big trouble as this "bailout" mess goes on.

Hop over to Micah Brown's site and you'll see what he wrote about this mess: http://www.xanga.com/MicahBrwn

and for those who want to look at that House Bill of the bailout (be prepared.. it's over 100 pages long. READ CAREFULLY!):
http://financialservices.house.gov/essa/ayo08c04_xml.pdf
note: The house website might be having technical problems since people are overwhelming congressional web pages. Be prepared for anything.

As the mess continues tomorrow, be sure to contact your financial advisor. Anything you have in that stock market, for God's sake.. SELL WHILE YOU STILL CAN!

Weekend Roundup

G'day Everyone from the wild and wet weather of PA!

Today, I start with a rant. The Bailout money, expected to be approved at any moment by Congress and sent for President Bush to sign, is generating OUTRAGE at this point. Especially for McCain and Obama who shouldn't have debated while this was going on. Obama might have "won" that debate as he pushed for it, but he could lose the whole election at this point if he insists on another one. But both senators had better be working with congress at this point because it's going to follow either man into the next Presidential life like a stone tied around their neck.

It's amazes me that we have a budget problem in this nation. We don't have ANY MONEY. Yet, Congress says "let's print $700 billion dollars and TAX THE PEOPLE!!" Will these political people be brave enough once they pass this "bill" and then go home to face the wrath of the voters? I think they might want to start looking for a NEW JOB this October. I wish them luck. Nobody is going to hire an EX-political person.

Even the same, I get picked on by friends of mine who want me to run for the Position of President (either Gallaudet University or the USA position). I turn them down. Thanks but NO THANKS. That job is a THANKLESS JOB. Who wants to mess with history? Not me, thank you!

All eyes will be glued on Wall Street and watching the first 10 minutes of the opening session. I don't want to say what will happen. Good or Bad, it will be an impact on our economic life.

Ok, rant over and back on track here. Whatever happens in the next few days, the political outrage will continue. The legacy of Bush grows more stinky.

Meanwhile, USA and USSR (Russia) have a new problem. China is fast setting up a SPACE RACE. China just completed it's first major space walk and if anything is possible, a SPACE STATION might be in the works next. I was going.. "Hey China, save your money. Join the International Space Station (ISS)". But you know, China loves to isolate itself. They're doing that so well, just like North Korea. So much for the Olympics of this past summer.

Hollywood Movie Star Paul Newman dies of cancer. Major Salute! That big blue eyed actor was my hero and my love struck crush when I was young. The favorite movies: Cool Hand Luke and The Sting. He was also a very gentle soul. God Bless you, Paul Newman. We'll miss you.

If you think football weekend's best game was the Michigan vs Wisconsin, think again! I salute Michgan for their preservance to STRIKE BACK at the Wisconsin badgers and send them packing back home and keeping them win less in Michigan stadium. But, the "BIG HOUSE" belongs to Penn State University!
Last night, on national prime time TV, PSU Lions and the Fighting Illini (Illinois) had a major slug fest in the first half, till a major penalty got hit on illini and the Lions didn't look back after that. At the second half, both teams kept going in full speed. It became clear that PSU was juicing the Juice (Illini QB Juice Williams) out of power plays. Poor Illini QB guy. He might want to drink a lot of Apple juice that we're sending him from the happy valley of PA. PSU wasn't in the mood of revenge on last year's defeat by illini. They stayed FOCUSED! Play smart and WIN! PSU went to 5-0. Illini dropped to 1-3.
Did you see beaver Stadium decked out in WHITE? That was cool! But for the illini fans, one suggestion: Plan your seating suggestion better. that "orange I" formation was a bad set up. It looked like an "8" to me in that illini student section!

As the leaves are changing, this should be the week that our beloved Gallaudet University Bisons get ready for another Road Trip to Becker College near Boston, MA. Will the Bisons learn the 3 lessons of losses and put together a first win? I hope we can salvage the season and start with a 1-3 win that will lead to other wins. Let's hope our herd is ready with Horns sharpened.

The weekend is over now. The busy week begins. Have a SEMPER FI week as we head into October 2008.
And to my Jewish readers, Happy Jewish new year that begins this week.

Idiot Hospitals and the ADA law.

G'day Everyone!

Jamie has posted a good article on deafness.about.com today. Link: http://deafness.about.com/b/2008/09/26/deaf-should-bring-friendsfamily-to-hospital-no-interpreter.htm#gB3

Now there's a few reasons why Hospitals ask to bring family/friends to assist in being an interpreter. It isn't about cost, but it's rather about gathering medical history of the deaf patient and teaching them to help care for the patient at home after release from the hospital.

But hospitals should show some sensitivity to the deaf patient that IS ABLE TO MAKE MEDICAL DECISIONS! Interpreters are needed, yes!

There was a time during a hospital stay not too long ago, I had to have my mom REMOVED from the room because I wanted to talk to the doctor privately. The doctor was against that decision. Unfortunately, I asked him two questions: "How's your LIL? (aka: License, Insurance, Lawyer) Would you be ready for a L-A-W-S-U-I-T?". He knew very well that I could file a complaint against him and the hospital. My mom quickly told the doctor: "My dear man, (in her sweetest tone), do what my son says. Just use a pen and paper and communicate with that!". Then she excused herself from the room.
I hate to threaten lawsuit. But there's a time deaf patients need to ask PERSONAL medical decision questions alone with the doctor. It is suppose to let the deaf patient build a rapport with the doctor in a one-on-one basis. If a doctor doesn't build that rapport, then he's got trouble.
The ADA law exists for a reason: Communication accessible in all situations. Hospitals ought to budget carefully. If they have staff members who can speak other languages, then they can afford to have some staff members to LEARN sign languages as well.

Hospitals in Rochester, NY and the Washington, DC metro areas are the greatest areas where deaf people live because of the major deaf colleges. Even towns that have a deaf schools, hospitals should beef up their staff to learn sign language. WHY? Because in emergency situations, every second is going to be critical to save a deaf patient. Interpreters are not always on-call for an emergency event.

I hope hospitals take the lessons to the heart. Communication accessible makes a difference for all deaf patients. It plays an important part of their overall healing and health.

The passing of a GU Professor.

G'day Everyone.

It saddens me that the Gallaudet Business Department didn't bother to post a notice in the inside Gallaudet, nor sending out an e-mail to their graduates on the passing of a wonderful Professor, Charles J. Pearce. When I was told that this professor had passed away, I was shocked. Doc P, as we used to call him in class, was one of the most kindest and gentle souls that walked on the earth. He cared about his students. He care to make sure they understood the materials they were working on. He didn't care of what nicknames we'd give him, only as long as we respected him for what he was doing what he loved: Teaching.

Here's the link to his obituary: http://www.legacy.com/TimesLeader/Obituaries.asp?Page=LifeStory&PersonId=116522704
please view it before it closes tomorrow (September 27th). It'll be the last day for anyone who wants to leave comments about him.

Thank you Brian G, for letting me know.

Dr. Pearce, May you walk the shores of heaven and gaze up at the wonder of it all. You shared many of your war stories and told me about life in the military and how you did things. I will miss your strength, wisdom, and friendship. For without you around, it will be a quiet world out there.

Semper FI to you, Sir, always! SALUTE!

Bailout could become a "Bail in"?

G'day (not really G'day) Everyone.

I know Micah Brown is going off about his 3 part of the Economic meltdown. But seriously, the whole country is already having an economic meltdown already. I'm already pissed at the republican party.
If you think back to early this month of all the screaming and yelling for McCain and Palin on national level, try your own local home republican party. The quiet grunts and nods were all that was said in support of the "presidential team to watch to win" this election.

Suddenly, in a time of NATIONAL CRISIS, The Republican party has finally shown it's backbone and REVOLTED against the President over the whole bailout plan!! I went "My God, they just *imploded* at the right moment! At a stupid national crisis moment!" While at the same time, the democrats want to join along with Bush and work things out. It seems to me every political person in DC, who were elected for years, is very afraid of their job all of a sudden. Dramatically, whatever they do right now could very well be their last time in Washington, DC if the voters, in their home state, were to stage a revolt this November against the whole "DO NOTHING CONGRESS".

Could the whole bail out plan turn into a tax that could be called a "Bail in" to the taxpayers coming next April? I hope not.

Whatever happens on this bail out issue, it's not going to go away any time.

A message to Obama: SIT DOWN and GET TO WORK WITH CONGRESS! This is not a time to POSTURE on holding a Presidential Debate! If Elections were held today, I wouldn't be voting for Obama or McCain. Hell, I'd be doing a write-in for HILLARY CLINTON!

No Semper FI today. Just not worth it in this national Crisis.

Alert..Alert: Another state bans Texting while Driving

G'day Everyone!

Alert..Alert! For the users of sidekicks, blackberries, and Cell phones that do a lot of texting while driving in California, you are getting a STATE WIDE BAN ON TEXTING WHILE DRIVING!

Oh, you scoff and don't believe me? Here's the Link: http://www.kcra.com/news/17551235/detail.html

But, be happy a little bit... the law doesn't become effective until January 1st, 2009.
How heavy is the penalty? From the article: "Violators caught text messaging while driving will be fined $20 for a first offense and $50 for any violations after that." Translation: it's a light fine, but it's your automobile insurance you should be worried about. You get a ticket, your insurance rates GO UP!

As more and more states join, it's even spreading to drivers of trains, subways, taxi cabs, Buses, and planes. If you don't think that texting while driving is dangerous, just ask the dead train engineer of a commuter line who missed the stop signals and plowed into a freight train. Now think of that as if you are driving your car. Are you willing to take *THAT CHANCE?* ?

Some of you will scoff and say, "I'll be ok. I can watch, text, and drive at the same time". Famous last words to be inscribed on to your tombstone.

Please, put the side kick, blackberry and cell phone down. Drive first. Text later.

Vote NO on the BAILOUT PLAN!!

G'day Everyone!

My Gosh.. I'm a few days behind in some very political issues and kind of sad about it. When you hear the Government proposing a $700 BILLION DOLLAR BAILOUT plan (my emphasis in GREEN because it's MONEY!! ) just to help some FAILING Wall street businesses that are important to this American Economic Crisis.

Boys and Girls, this is bad. It's telling us that the years of the Bush Administration, so wrapped up in the WAR ON TERRORISM, finally wakes up in the fading days of the Bush Presidency to find themselves going: "oh shit, I lost control of Economics!" cries on a daily basis. What a 'proud' end to his legacy that will give way to the next president.

In all this MADNESS, Bush has firmly proposed to entrench America into debt for at least 3 to 4 generations to come in this nation. How should we respond? As one nation, at one precise moment of a time in our busy lives, we should take megaphones and SHOUT one resounding stamping of the feet of telling congress: "VOTE NO! HELL NO! NO means NO!". It would be a terrible defeat for President Bush and a wall street bank would finally fail.

Bush has the balls to tell the world that congress will pass that bailout plan bill. But what if congress votes "NO!". Then it's a political free for all. If McCain and Obama vote for this Bailout plan, then they DO NOT deserve to be our Next President. Hell, we need Bill Clinton back at the helm again, I would rather suffer two terms under him in a very exempted state. Clinton balanced the budget and gave economic stability. Bush? Economics have tanked in 8 years.

So we are in a very mounting crisis. We have a credit card crisis. Mortgage crisis. Housing crisis, Student loans crisis. Banking crisis. Crisis of our dollar. Fuel Crisis. Crisis of just about everything else.

If the American voter would simply CLEAN OUT Congress of all these long term windbags that been there for too many years, then our government would finally get a fresh scent of NEW IDEAS that are needed to help our nation. But would this nation do it? This is the national sense of urgency that needs to be on the minds of every voter in America that this is OUR YEAR to finally change this nation. If we don't do this, We'll never get another chance in this century change Congress completely. Instead of voting for the candidates on the ballot, we should have a WRITE-IN VOTE of a different person. It would send a serious message to our government that we need to get serious about our money.

When there's a totally NEW Congress, the first thing it should do is pass an ANTI-Pork Barrel law that prevents law makers in both Congress and State Lawmakers from attaching "pet projects" to spending bills. The "BRIDGE TO NOWHERE IN ALASKA"? The best example of wasteful hard earned TAXPAYER DOLLARS that was part of that pork barrel pet project for the Alaska senator. Embarrassment, yes!

We are at a critical time in our nation. We have an economic problem with NO EASY SOLUTIONS. Our government is now trying stop it's own madness that might bring down our nation. Will they be able to do it? I doubt it.

If you got a solution that you think that helps this nation, Hell, I'd like to hear it.

Comments are open, but please, direct your firestorms at the political people. They're the ones that should have their ears YELLED INTO THE MOST! And don't forget, TELL THEM TO VOTE NO ON THE BAILOUT PLAN!

P.S. our President Bush (Bushie boy) plans to speak tonight, prime time. More hot air that makes Al Gore decry another "Global Warming Crisis in Washington". After all, that's where all the HOT AIR is coming from.

Semper FI? Maybe not.

Farewell Yankee Stadium!

G'day Everyone!

Well, An end of a era is always heart breaking. Especially when it's Yankee Stadium. For the many THOUSANDS of Fans, visitors, baseball collectors, and sightseers they came to pay their respects to a dying institution. Yankee Stadium is a legend of it's own making. It has withstood the test of time. It's had many famous moments, many famous games, and many famous visitors that came to see it, speak, and leave breathless. Yankee Stadium events also had many infamous moments as well.

Now the city of New York as well as it's baseball team has said Yankee Stadium has out-lived it's purposes and built a NEW STADIUM across the parking lot. *sigh*. But suddenly, the new stadium is now a new controversy in NY because of these ECONOMIC days. Even though it was being built in the better economic days before, the new stadium is now considered a "luxury" stadium. So it's a tough pill to take in these times.

But, for those who visited Yankee Stadium, I'm hope that many of the Boston Red Sox fans gathered up all their "curses" and took them home. Because if they didn't, those that are left behind will get BURIED in the past forever.
At the same time, all of the former mob bosses ought to start sweating. Even the old timers in prison cells as well. If there are any BODIES in the old yankee stadium floors and grounds, it's most likely going to be found. So if those old mob bosses want to escape the justice of the past coming back to bite them in the ass, now's the time to *expire* on schedule. :-) It would be interesting to find a body or a two in Yankee stadium as it gets torn down.

Here's the article on the last game: http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2008/writers/tom_verducci/09/22/yankee.stadium.last.game/index.html

Across the street, the new stadium sits ready to play it's first game. From what one source tells me, they have gone over the entire stadium inch by inch as it was being constructed. They made sure that Red Sox fans and construction workers were prevented from leaving "new curses" anywhere within the newly built stadium. One of the construction workers was arrested for trying to leave a "new curse" in a certain spot. Unfortunately, it was the wrong thing to try to leave a new curse. I can understand the intense Rex Sox/Yankees rivals that they are in.

But, it's time we got past trying to "curse" teams of a bad season and play some honest and drug-free baseball. As the baseball season winds down to the play-off races, so are the dreams of winning the Baseball World Series.

I had many chances in all my life to visit the OLD Yankee Stadium. Since it's closed, that's over. But new yankee stadium? Humm. Maybe.
As the season starts to come to an end for the Yankees, even if they don't make the play-offs, they gave it their best baseball hit season. That's all any fan could ask for. Bittersweet season to the final out is the best of times.

Semper FI old Yankee Stadium. We'll miss it. The Spirit of the old Yankees lives on!

Ying and Yang weekend.

G'day Everyone.

Enjoying your FALL weekend? I think everyone is. I had a quiet weekend. Not much has gone on in terms of excitement.

But on the FOOTBALL side of things It was PSU that had the better energy of Ying and Yang as it TROUNCED Tenn Temple University by a score of 45-3. Now that was a lopsided win. But it shouldn't escape you that JoePa (Joe Paterno, head coach) had to send himself up to the press box after half-time due to leg problems. Among the fans this year, most of us are in hopes that he will retire after this season is over. For now PSU is officially 4-0. The upcoming game is against Illinois University. That's the first BIG test against a TOUGH team.

Syracuse University had REVENGE on it's mind to go 1-3 as the beat up Northeastern University.

The worst of the bad side of Yang and Ying belongs to Gallaudet University. The mighty herd were "shot to death" at Greensboro University at a score of 34-0! The loss puts Gallaudet at a 0-3 mark. As our herd has limped back to the grassy grounds of Kendall Greens (GU Campus), they are in for a bye week of a rest (about 14 days) to prepare for their next road trip to Becker College on October 4th, 2008 for a high noon (12pm) football game. Hopefully, it will be a time well spent to figure out what happened on their first road trip this season.

So, until next time, Semper FI.

The Great Financial Meltdown: An American Crisis

G'day Everyone!

This one just had to be important one for all of us, hearing or deaf, to read since it relates to economic news.

I'm sure most of you are tuned to the news channel on the TV or in the Blogsphere. If you read clearly, You'd be aware of the growing financial crisis going on here in America. If it's not a mortgage firm, then it's an investment firm. If it's not that, then it's an insurance company. The worst could still come. If the banking industry was to fall next, then we are in HELL OF A LOT OF TROUBLE!

read this article:http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080918/ap_on_bi_ge/financial_meltdown

The article is old news, but it brings about our point.

If our nation hasn't remembered the great depression long ago back in the late 1920's and early 1930's and haven't learned the lessons of financial preparation for survival in this country, then we all have become too lazy in defending our way of life in our country.

Lately, I am concerned of the health of our Economic nation. Should the government bail out every financial institution? Like Student Loan industry? The mortgage crisis? And now Insurance?

How about if our government could step in and supply FREE MONEY HELP TO EVERY HOMEOWNER that is facing a Financial loss to foreclosure? The same should be for every person that has gone BANKRUPT.

As our nation goes through this financial crisis, I suggest you, my dear reader, whatever you be hearing or deaf, to do yourself a favor today. Call your financial advisor. Call your broker. Now is the time to sell your stocks, bonds, any other investment and buy GOLD, OIL, and Precious metals.

The way our government is working in this crisis, I feel no longer confident in this nation. If we are heading to our 2nd great depression, or another Black financial day crash on the market it is possible that it will set back our nation's economic status in the world for ages to come.

Be prepared. Be ready. If anything else happens out there.. PRAY.

salute to Bob G for the link.

Trouble in the Church Ministry

G'day Everyone.

In the past, I used to speak about harassment against Gays, Lesbians, and bisexuals. Not only happens at work (which is illegal), but it also happens in the church ministry.

Today's post is more of a reflection of what Mishka Zena has just written in her blog:
http://blog.deafread.com/mishkazena/2008/09/16/harassment-of-deaf-gays-and-lesbians/

Personally, Mishka has well written this blog of her and the issue does hit home personally to the author of this blog.

Every church ministry, whatever it be hearing or deaf, regardless what type of church or ministry it is, should remember this:

In every religious ministry, there are going to be all kinds of people from all walks of life. There are going to be those who are not only straight, But those who are GAY, BI-Sexual, and LESBIAN. Free Will that has been provided by God still remains with every man, woman, and child. HATE SIN, LOVE THE SINNER.

Christians, you do not represent the Lord Jesus Christ when you use the Bible, The Koran, or whatever what "Holy Scriptures" as a weapon against people when you make DISCRIMINATION and you say "what my god says, it's proof!". You know, Jesus did accept and took in all the UNDESIRABLES. He had mercy on them. It's certainly today that ministries today don't show any mercy at all to people unless you are a STRAIGHT SINNER. We need to show mercy to ALL people, regardless of race, creed, sex, orientation.

Several weeks ago, a guest writer, a retired pastor, in my local paper wrote about his experience in dealing with a gay person who asked him a very important question: "Would I be welcome in your church?". The retired pastor never realized what the gay person was asking, until years later, he realized it. He said "If I had realized it then, I would have understood his pain and said "YES" as Jesus would have done".

Every ministry ought to remember to this day: The church is made up of everyone from various backgrounds. Even gay, straight and bisexual. We have one common factor in us all : We're sinners.

Don't judge unless you have been in our shoes. But the final judge of all will be GOD when we die.

Despite I tried not to "preach" a bit in this blog, I'm sorry it sounds of religious overtones. But then again, I'm pointing out that every church and religion in the world is IMPERFECT as well.

Thank you, Miska Zena, for that wonderful post always that will start a discussion today.

Salute and SEMER FI.

Doctor/Patient and ADA.

G'day Everyone!

First, before I get into my post today, I have a shout to my readers in Houston, Texas area. If anyone knows about Robert A. Smith, could someone tell me that he's OK? A friend of mine, Sharon Rutherford, and I are concerned for him. If someone has info, please contact me. Thanks.

Now, on to today's post:

Second, if anyone has stock investments in the market, CONSULT YOUR BROKER FAST and put on a *HOLD* on your trading (or whatever the advice your broker gives you). The news is so bad on Wall Street, I hope we are not heading for another bad *CRASH* that would really hurt this country. If it happens, I don't want to think of the worst of worst things to come.

Meanwhile, my main topic today is Jamie Berke's post in the deafness.about.com article :
http://deafness.about.com/b/2008/09/14/doctor-no-interpreter-patient-i-will-sue.htm

You know, Doctors and Hospitals are way under prepared for deaf patients. An interpreter for the deaf should be on-call every day. Especially in emergency situations. I hated my own experience in my hometown's own hospital. The lack of interpreters was astounding to me. What would happen if I didn't have a working hearing aid? Then my frustration would mount and you know, I would be more than happy to leave the hospital. Sue the hospital is always an option for violations of the ADA laws.

I have talked with some deaf friends who've spent in some good hospitals that have certified Interpreters for the deaf. But how many hospitals can afford of taking care of deaf patients? That's the question of the day. I've had some deaf friends that have described to me some of the HORROR stories of staying in the hospitals. If they want to post about their experience, the comments are open for it.

Lastly.. someone just gave me a link to a webpage:
http://www.deafnetwork.com/

have a look at it. I plan to look on it later and show some support. OK

stay in prayer and have a great day.

what a day.

G'day everyone!

Right now, I'm sitting here at my desk and tired. Such a long day at a Lions Club Chicken Bar-b-que. Had a lot of fun with these club members. Handed out jokes and made a few new friends. It was a nice day.. till it rained.

Anyhow, PSU has tromped on Syracuse University (SU) in it's first match by a score of, get this, 55-13. I was kind of surprised. PSU now has a 3-0 winning streak while SU is on a 0-3 Loss streak. OUCH! What's next? Stay tune for the major colleges action.

Meanwhile, the Gallaudet Bisons put up a good fight against St. Vincent's college at the 2nd home game. The result was the second loss of the Bisons by a score of 23-22. For game info: http://www.gallaudetathletics.com/sports/fball/index

The Gallaudet University Bisons will be traveling to Greensboro on 9/20/08 for the first away game. May the force of the herd find a better win on Greensboro's grazing ground.

Hurricane Ike is on it's way East and preparations are being made for it's arrival. Please keep watch of this MAJOR storm. It left a pretty good damage in Texas.

Also, a SALUTE to Nick Vera on winning an award at his work place! Congratulations NICK! I hope they offer you a PERMANENT JOB!

So, until next time.. SEMPER FI.

9/11

G'day Everyone.

Today, the memorial of the moment of the worst terror attacks upon America was remembered. 7 years ago, the crazy people made their own "political statement" by hi-jacking 4 airplanes and smashing them into various places: 2 in WTC, 1 in pentagon (though it's disputed that it was a missile), and one in Shanksville, PA field. It was the Worst Tragic day that changed the face of American history forever. It would plunge this world into a "war on terrorism". 7 years later, our nation has been proclaimed to be safe from all the horrors of terrorism. It was said that President Bush has safe guarded our nation since then.

But are we safe? I don't think so. Crime still happens. The small petty stuff.
Saddam has been caught, tried, and eventually executed. His sons died in battle.
It appears that Osama Bin Laden will likely escape justice from President Bush. As long as Osama keeps hiding till January 20th 2009, Osama could boast then that he wasn't able to add on to the Bush Legacy. But Osama will have his small victory. He will face the final judgement from God later. It won't be pretty for Osama.

Today, is Patriot Day. Today we remember and remain strong Americans that have united to defeat those who are bent on doing terrorism. Every Terrorist person ought to fear two things: American justice and God. They will get caught. They will get punished. And they will eventually be sent to God for the ULTIMATE PUNISHMENT.

Whatever happens today, Be in Prayer.

Update: I didn't see the TV guide until it was too late and saw on the history channel about the 9/11 attacks. Sitting for 3 hours and watching these horror filled graphics of videos that were shot by many various people about the September 11th, 2001, makes you take a big pause and wonder so much. These fanatical people, these Terrorists, hi-jacking the planes, have no idea of the amount of death, destruction, and carnage that they have caused on earth. So I hope as they look from hell on this "memorial day", they'll be crying because no reward is waiting for them.
They'll be wishing they wish they hadn't changed this world.

This show on the history channel was really moving about 9/11. Good composition of the documentations. 9/11 will always be our turning point in history.

But soon the next turning point is coming. November 2008: the presidential elections.

are you ready?

RIT and GU in the News.

G'day Everyone!

Well, I got alerted to two news topics. First is pretty major:
http://www.democratandchronicle.com/article/20080910/NEWS01/80910041

Of that link from DandC is an article related to the RIT Hazing Trial going on in Henrettia, NY. The judge will decide any day of the fate of 8 students of various charges of the RIT Rugby Club for their involvement in Hazing incident. The RIT Rugby club is currently in suspended state and won't be playing until 2010. Sadly, that's justice. But how will these injuried kids feel of the level of hazing? It's wrong and it considered TORTURE. Let's hope the judge puts justice where it belongs.

Second: Consider what happened on the Campus of Gallaudet University Today:
For your pleasure.. choose any of the news feeds:
http://www.nbc4.com/news/17438124/detail.html

associated press article: http://ap.google.com/article/ALeqM5hiQQh4GU-0bHD3oStq9OAssUfsdwD933VAN00

And the Washington Post: http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2008/09/10/AR2008091001641.html

Since these two major stories are nearly over lapping with each other, I need not to comment on the 2nd article. The Washington Post commented plenty about it.

Tonight, don't miss the history channel on your cable tv. Special show:
"102 minutes that changed the face of America FOREVER". Yes folks, it's a 9/11 documentary.
Be brave, and watch it. Remember those who perished in TWC, Shanksville, and Pentagon.

Update: My mistake. It may be shown tomorrow night on the History channel.

Raise the driving age!

G'day Everyone!

Finally, something that I support very much. You know, we live in the age of cell phones, blackberries, and side kicks. Teens are very talkative. They have so much DISTRACTIONS around them. So here's this proposal in the article: http://www.cnn.com/2008/US/09/09/driving.age.ap/index.html

It was a few years ago, I've seen some aggressive teenage drivers trying to use their cars to push around other drivers as if saying "this road is MINE, GET LOST!". I was able to see this YOUNG KID, 16 behind the wheel! Not only did I call the police, I had the license plate and went to the DMV. Of what happened to the poor kid, I'm not allowed to say. Except he won't be driving for a long while. Kids need to live out their childhood/early teen days. They should be able to drive at 18. But it's worry fact because some are in an argument to lower the drinking age from 21 to *get this* 18. AUGH. NOT A GOOD IDEA!!

In local news, there a FATAL reminder that you should never pass a school bus, no matter how slow it is. This young man, age 21, has learned a end of life fatal decision.
http://www.sungazette.com/page/content.detail/id/515432.html?nav=5011
While it saddens me to learn this man has just been enjoying life, his decision to make a foolish choice ended in his literal passing. A funeral will be held with a closed casket.
So I say to you, drivers, that are young and old, DON'T EVER PASS A DAMN SCHOOL BUS!! There is no need to pass a school bus for any reason.

So that being said, I hope the young drivers out there will put off a decision of getting a license until they grow up some more. Life is precious. But once a bad mistake made is a possible fatal error.

GU, PSU, SU, 9/11 and on politics.

G'day Everyone!

Well, Tropical Storm Hannah came and dumped heavy rain in a lot of places. It was a good thing to replenish water supplies. But, the downside is that it created a lot of problems.

For the Gallaudet University Bisons, they took a tough loss in the season opener to Hiram College. http://www.gallaudetathletics.com/sports/fball/2008-09/news/20080906galvshiram
Very tough conditions. Hopefully, Hurricane Ike will likely stay south next weekend as the Bisons host St. Vincent at 1pm on the Hotchkiss field.

My favorite college team, Penn State University (PSU) Nittany Lions hosted the Oregon State Beavers. The Lions beat the Beavers 45-14. http://gopsusports.cstv.com/sports/m-footbl/recaps/090608aaa.html
Unfortunately, the Beavers thought by playing in PSU's Beaver stadium, they thought they'd win. Ahh well, better luck next time.

Next Saturday, The Lions will travel to Syracuse University to face the ORANGEMEN for the FIRST TIME AGAIN! The last time these old rivals meet was back in 1990. So it's been many years for both sets of fans pleading for the rivals meet again. Expect a packed house at the Syracuse University football field. Don't miss that Saturday, September 13th at 3:30pm on ABC and ESPN GamePlan. Don't miss this excitement of the Fall Classic game: PSU vs SU! Orangemen vs Nittany Lions. For JoePA, he better expect a case of Oranges to be sent his way. For the coach of SU, maybe a mail bag full of Nittany Lions coming his way! My hope? PSU Claws SU, 32-14.

Now, this week is going to be our most important week of year. It is 7 years after September 11th, 2001. The year the world changed. The History channel is doing a Special show about September 11th. They made a collaboration of many views from ground witnesses that viewed the September 11th attacks. So this is going to be a very good show. Remember what happened on September 11th 2001. Patriot day is forever.

On the last issue. I have been watching the political things that have gone on. The conventions are over and both sets of Presidents and VPs have been nominated. I'm kind of sad for Hillary Clinton. I am so DEAD SURE that she did get the nomination. But chooses to let Obama lead in the name of "Party Unity". Will her supporters stage a massive WRITE-IN for Hillary? Who knows? If she waits till 2012, she better hope she's got that opportunity if the New York State doesn't boot her out of the senate before then.
I'm dead set against voting for McCain. His choice of VP sounds like one of the most risky choices that he's ever made. So, the republican party isn't exactly that happy in this election. So who's left? Ron Paul. Logical choice? Maybe.

So now we're in the home stretch to November 2008. How will it go? May the force of the voters UNITE to pick the right person for the job of President and Vice President. I predict many write-ins this year.

Till next time.. Semper FI.

The Fall of First Friday September 2008

G'day Everyone!

Kick back into Gear! The first Friday of the month of September is here! Whoo hoo! What could be MORE excitement than that? Actually, I'm jealous of all the DPHHers that are out there and having fun on this Friday nite in DC area.

Gustav has missed my home and gone on to tangle up the people in Canada. Ahh well. That's prolly a good thing. Every one's on alert here for Hurricane Hannah and Ike. We're all in a watch for the storms to happen. Yick! Give me the rain, but leave the winds else where!

I'm having fun this weekend. Two carnivals to go to and possible go to a movie.

However, back on the subject of NTID, it's clear that more than a few individuals are considering of filing a lawsuit against NTID over the use of the Social Security numbers. I am not surprised of their decision on that. Will it work? Can they convince their lawyers to file it and turn it into a class action lawsuit? I don't know.

But I stand by of what I said before: I want that NTID employee, who was responsible for the laptop, to be FIRED immediately. This is something that NTID has to show responsibility for it's own staff members. At the same time, I do hope RIT Campus Safety and the Monroe County sheriffs will do a good investigation and arrest the person or persons who've stolen that laptop and are using it. When that person(s) does get caught, I hope they will face the anger of the entire deaf community and hopefully give a reason WHY they stole it. But given to the level of what they did, they have broken our security of our NTID. It will be ages before NTID regains it's full trust and sense of security again.

Ok.. now that I got that out of my system, it's time to focus on the weekend. Whatever you be a student or one of those professional workers, kick back for 48 hours. Enjoy your weekend. But by 7pm Sunday, we'll all be ready for another week.
Unless the hurricanes messes up things, like Football for the GU Bisons or for the Nittany Lions of PSU, there will be another day for pigskin to be played.

Semper FI....for now.

Alan Hurwitz and the Videos and hurricanes

G'day Everyone!

At last, NTID President: Alan Hurwitz, finally makes an appearance on the video. There's also ASL videos that sign about the " Frequent Qs and As" http://www.rit.edu/news/?v=46283.

So here's Alan Hurwitz: http://www.rit.edu/videos/ntid_stolen_laptop/index.php?file=message_from_dr_hurwitz .

On the bright side, I've gotten credit agencies NOTIFIED, I've gotten a hold of one of the 3 credit bureaus. I've taken my own steps as much as I could do.

Often I'm getting called up on my VP from friends I haven't chatted with in ages and asking me: "hey is it DAMN true it's happening at NTID"? Unfortunately I have tell them: "yep".

My hope in this situation is for Gallaudet University and many other deaf related schools will take protective actions to prevent similar laptop thefts from happening on their own campus.

May you, my dear reader, go out and buy yourself a laptop cable lock and lock your laptop to your desk. Worth the price to pay for a peace of mind that your laptop is SAFE!

As the week winds down, so is my bashing on NTID. I'm still in prayer that the thief will be caught asap. But, we turn our thoughts to the hurricanes. Tropical Storm (hurricane) Gustav has been drenching the states. It's due to be here later tomorrow in my end of the nation.

Hurricane Hanna due to arrive at any hour now. But coming right behind it is IKE! I was surprised when they named it Ike. It's a nickname for Eisenhower. IKE is very strong at the present. How it's going to act, nobody knows. But we're watching. Then look, there's Josephine coming right behind it. I'm going WOW!! This is an unusual hurricane season.

So pray for the people that may be involved in this hurricane season.

Finally to say, I'm going to have a busy weekend. There's a carnival in my area that I'm going to be going to. A local Fall Festival to attend to. And plenty of relaxing. Will the rain chase away this heat? I hope so.

So thanks to Nick for his note about Alan's video.

Have a great Semper FI weekend!

Personally thinking of NTID: Update

G'day Everyone!

As I hear from more of my NTID related friends, the more I realize the OUTRAGE is building among people in the NTID Alumni community. The more letters that arrive out there, the more it gets to be known of who's name is on that list of who landed on that stolen laptop.

One of my friends does suspects that the incident at the NTID offices has to be an inside job. I have to agree. How does one know which laptop to steal with all this personal information? How did this person know when to grab it at the right time right place from this particular office? Did that employee that had the laptop sell us, the NTID community, out? Was it a revenge of sorts? Did he get passed over for promotion? Financial needs? These are the questions that may never be answered for any reason. One person said to me that stealing a laptop would indicate a joke gone very badly. I wish that was true. Unfortunately it's not because it's become a very real incident.

What ever the reasons that the laptop that got stolen, I can tell you that this person's job at NTID is already at an end. No kind of reprimand or resignation is possible. That person must be fired in order for NTID to show responsibility.

In the coming days, if RIT Campus Safety or the Monroe County Police arrest the right person in this case, I will be one of the many thousands of people that will personally SUE this SOB for what he's done. NTID will bear the responsibility for it.

You know what? It's been an honor to be accepted to go to NTID. It's been an honor to learn at NTID towards my degree. It's been an honor to GRADUATE from NTID (RIT) with my degree. For many of the people that work in NTID, they ought to consider every day that it's an honor to work on the NTID campus. Honor equals TRUST. That's what it's all about. Honor. Honor also means RESPONSIBILITY!

But when one of their own does something stupid (ill-responsibility), the honor to work on the NTID campus is gone. The trust is gone. Responsibility becomes overwhelming for others. It makes it harder to work on the NTID campus as a team work. It's harder for the student to learn and graduate from NTID. Redemption is harder to obtain for almost everyone affected by this case.

Rebuilding the trust (honor) becomes an impossible task. A task that won't be easy until the person or persons are CAUGHT with the stolen laptop. When that happens, then rebuilding the trust will become easier to do over time. Responsibility becomes a lot more important than ever.

In NTID's case with the theft of personal data, it's like 40 years was ripped right out of the heart of this institution and now NTID is starting over at year 1 with Alan Hurwitz as it's President.
We will rebuild. We will be stronger. We won't give up. But we will see justice for the very person that has hurt all of us.

Until then, I urge those that have been affected by this very incident at NTID to make an effort to protect your credit files and financial data. Even your other personal data as well. As it shows, we are living in a changed world.

Semper FI.

Update:

I would like to thank those who commented recently. I know I'm hitting NTID hard over the object of one person's abuse. But, you know our life of our credit reports are much more important.

I wanted to say I heard what happened to RSGO007's situation at the bank: rsgeo007.blogspot.com/. Believe it or not, our theft is acting fast already.

also another blogger also left me a link to share with you all :

When ID Theft hits home!

G'day Everyone!

Well, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out my day was going to get worse. Earlier today, I was talking with a fellow blogger that we thought about NTID's situation of the stolen laptop that contained the personal info may or may not hit on the NTID alumni community. We were thinking of revising our posts.

Following the pick up from today's mail that came with a PERSONAL letter from Alan Hurwitz, President of NTID. It became very real and confirmed that I have become one of the 12,700 students who's personal confidential data that was on the STOLEN laptop!!

Unfortunately, Alan's letter did little to comfort me of what's happened in the NTID situation. They should have moved FASTER than waiting 5 days after the theft! Investigation or not, this is serious! As the letter reads it's date of August 29th, and that the Rochester Democrat and Chronicle Newspapers hits out on August 30th. It is like they have waited for 5 full days and letting the person who's done the theft have a 5 day head start with our personal information.

You know, while NTID has come out and posted on their web page, as listed on deaf read,
http://www.ntid.rit.edu/media/full_text.php?article_id=759 (the info is as of August 30th, Saturday), The orangeandbrown coalition hasn't said anything, which they have been quiet since July 28th.

Yet, this is the most serious breach of trust that has happened in NTID. For 40 years, they have names of every one who's applied, been there, and graduated from NTID. Why, in God's name was personal info stored on a laptop? Why wasn't that important data stored in a *SECURED ROOM*?

It only takes ONE stupid idiot person to get careless with security. One idiot to get careless with his office. It is my demand that NTID should FIRE that person responsible for being careless with his office and having an unsecured computer equipment. I'm sure this employee knows his/her time has ended at NTID the moment the laptop was GONE.

From what I can tell you, some of personal information is already being used by this thief as that person hasn't wasted time. According to one friend of mine, she's gotten a notice in a mail that a new bank account was opened in her name but wrong SS#. It just boggles the mind! It goes right back to lack of time that NTID waited and gave this person time to his dirty job.

Well, to the heart of this post: Any person among the 12,700 or whatever it is, gets an official looking letter from NTID, should NOT DELAY. Take prompt action IMMEDIATELY.

1. Call your credit card companies and have them put a FRAUD ALERT status on your account.
2. Call your bank. Have them put a note in your file to ask for your identification. If you bank on the web, have your bank put a secure status alert on your account.
3. most important of all call one of the 3 MAJOR CREDIT bureaus :

Equifax: 1-877-576-5734; www.equifax.com
Experian: 1-888-397-3742; www.experian.com/fraud
TransUnion: 1-800-680-7289; www.transunion.com
When you talk to them, ask that they put a "FRAUD ALERT" on your account. It may be good for 90 days but consider to renew it.

Also, you can go to www.freecreditreport.com as well to order a free credit report.

In everything said: NTID should have taken stronger security measures BEFORE this happened. Right now, confidence among the NTID alumni and students will be harder to restore. When this person is caught with this laptop, mark my words: I will be one of the many to sue this person for stealing this information. For the next 40 years, NTID is going to have to win back every one's confidence that their data is safe and secured.

As I said before the world has changed. Nothing should be taken for granted any more.

Welcome Fall 2008

G'day Everyone!

Happy Fall 2008! For some of you, you've just entered back into school and colleges. For others, we're all busy with everything else going on. It's a time when we're getting out on the holiday and taking drives through the countryside, seeing the trees begin to shed the wonderful green leaf to *star bursting* colors. It won't be long before they all start falling down.

College Football has begun at last. PSU, as we like to call them: Joe PA team, has won their first game to the season and allowed Paterno to have his record officially tied with Bobby Bowden. But how long will that remain? PSU has a tough schedule coming up. Won't be an easy season.
Then, that remains the same for Gallaudet University Bisons when they officially open their season this coming Saturday, September 6th at the Hotchkiss Field (nick named: The infamous OK corral, since kick off time is HIGH NOON!). Don't miss the duel folks! It's sure to be a shoot-out!

Meanwhile, I'm still pissed about yesterday. I hate posting alerts. Especially where it involves something that happens in a major way. How could an employee in NTID be having so many personal information on a laptop that WAS NOT secured to the desk? Why would NTID/RIT wait so long before putting out the information to the media? ID Theft is a major incident. We are no longer living in a world where society trusts each other. If personal information does get compromised in the NTID alumni community, how will NTID feel? Just to say that they've reviewed and improved "security procedures"? Sorry, NTID. That's too little too late to do just that. It makes me wonder why data security wasn't done a whole lot sooner.

In this nation, ID theft is a growing threat. Especially data that is left on laptops! We've heard that Department of Veterans laptop got stolen. Department of Justice, and God knows of any other important organization Government, State, and local businesses that have suffered the same type of crime.

When I worked for a major government business organization, I made it a habit to remind the new laptop users to please use the laptop security chain whenever possible. We try to tell our clients that laptops can be stolen at any time, even if a door is closed. So if you got a laptop or a tower, do me a favor, put a damn computer chain on it and bolt it to your desk.

As I said before, what has happened at NTID ought to be a wake-up call to Gallaudet and other deaf related organizations and schools. When dealing with PRIVATE confidential information, make sure it's secured. By what I mean secured is putting it on a main computer in a secured room and encryption to the HIGHEST level that there is.

In the next few days as the deaf community comes out of the holiday weekend I have a feeling that the reaction is going to be hard and fast. Let's hope NTID is fast at giving out apology too.
