The Fall Season decends on Williamsport now.
The last crack of the bat, the call of the STRIKE, and the last call of "YER OUT!" had the fans in Lamade on it's feet as a team from California defeats a team from Taipei by a score of 6-3. The screams, the cheers, and the shouts of VICTORY rip through the air.
It is evening now as I type this. The rains are moving in. I can only imagine the Lamade and the volunteer stadiums covering up the grounds as the process begins to put the stadiums back into hibernation for another year till August 2010. It has been a great season here in Williamsport.
The Market Street bridge is being put into the process of being renamed so that people will realize that they are passing through the City of Williamsport, Home of the Little League World Series. Link: http://www.littleleague.org/series/2009divisions/llbb/series.htm
The cool air is drifting through the mountains and lends a sense that the fall weather is starting early this week. By tomorrow morning, many schools of elementary, high school, and colleges / universities will begin the academic year of 2009-2010. Just the same every school and college/ universities begins their Fall 2009 Football year. Much of the games will begin to happen on Friday and Saturday September 4-5, 2009 at the most.
Also by tomorrow morning, many of the fans and players of the Little League World Series will check out of their hotels, climb into their cars, buses, and planes and head on home and saying Good Bye to Williamsport, PA. For many of these kids, coming to this place has been their dreams and now they can say they were here. May they all have a safe drive, bus, and flight going home. For us that live here, say, Come back and visit the next year! There will be another time to play ball again.
As I sit on my porch tonight, I'm wishing to hope the clouds will break and a moon will shine over the area. Perhaps that is a fitting end for the Little League World Series to see and if any lingering fans sitting in the Lamade stands.
So have a great week everyone.

Medical Students Learn about Deaf Patients in exercise.
Finally, if there was something worth waiting for, it happened. It appears in the deafness.about.com guide. This is the link to the news article below.
Link to the Rochester Democrat and Chronicle: http://www.democratandchronicle.com/article/20090829/NEWS01/908290331/1002/NEWS
Read it and see how interesting it is. I really hope the word gets out so that OTHER hospitals can have a deaf day with medical students so that doctors can get experience in treating deaf patients and that the deaf community gets involved with the hospitals as well.
Too long have hospitals depended on interpreters. Some doctors really need to be involved with the care of deaf patients. Especially in emergency situations as well.
Will doctors depend on interpreters or will they start using pen and paper to get the communication lines clear? Let's hope there's a better future for deaf patients in hospitals.

Wanna be President?
Wanna be President? Like President of some organization, President of a college, or President of the USA? I can tell you something about being a President. They all carry some *HUGE* responsibilities. It's like the weight of the world on your shoulders. It is a lot of work.
I used to be involved in some organizations long ago, but never wanted the title of the "President".
President of the USA? Oh please. I may like politics and some times I leave that to Micah Brown. But politics can get dirty and downright nasty. However, some people DREAM of being a President of USA. Just look at the singer Nick Jonas! Link: http://www.politicsdaily.com/2009/08/25/jo-bro-for-president-nick-jonas-says-someday/?icid=mainmaindl7link4http%3A%2F%2Fwww.politicsdaily.com%2F2009%2F08%2F25%2Fjo-bro-for-president-nick-jonas-says-someday%2F
But Nick Jonas has a long way to go. He'd have to give up a lot of things in order to become President of USA. He has to get involved in the world of politics in the local, state, and national areas. Nick Jonas has to remember one thing. Being President of USA means that you are making every day decisions for the nation and the world. It gets ugly at times. I don't expect Nick Jonas in 2040 to be president. However, at the present time, he should enjoy what he's doing: being a singer and got fame!
Speaking on the theme of President, Gallaudet University(GU) is soon to announce the list of the candidates who will be in line to replace the outgoing President of Gallaudet Davila. My only hope that the Presidential Search Advisory Committee (PSAC) has found worthy candidates who are independent of Davila, Jordan, and GU. There has to be a person that will bring FRESH IDEAS to our university so that GU can transition and survive the 21st century. The GU community is watching how the events unfold as the Fall 2009-2010 school year begins. Let us hope a candidate is selected in a proper way and that GU can move on from the problem filled years of the past.
Some of my friends asked me if I wanted to be President of GU. I have put my foot down very hard, despite it was a joke, and said " If I wanted to be president of GU, I would have put my name forward. But, the requirements put out by PSAC are sorely lacking. So I rather not try for it.". But yet, it's a dream and that'll always be a dream.
Let me share something with you. When I was back in High School, I put my name in on the ballot list. I ran an honest election. I was running for the President of the Senior Class. I would have been the first deaf (mainstream) class president in a hearing high school. The battle and the debate went well. My rival did everything he could to try to influence people, including using my handicap against me. He won by one vote. He went nuts that he beat a deaf person and said "In your face, Steve". I pulled off my hearing aid, held it in front of his face, and said "The day you lose your hearing, call me. I'll give you a hearing aid and you can walk in my shoes like I have". Then I walked away with my friends. I never forgot his taunting at me.
To this day, If I was given a chance to be a president of something, I'd carry out that responsibility for an organization. But political wise? No thanks. If Micah Brown or any other deaf person were to run for something, I'd support them all the way.
What does the future hold for our nation and the world? I don't know. But let us hope good decisions lead to a profitable future for all of us.

GIFT AWAY!
What's a gift? A gift is a present. Usually it's given to you on your birthday and Christmas. Some times special ones on valentine's day.
But what makes it a gift when it's given UNEXPECTEDLY from someone? There doesn't have to be a reason or a method of madness to it. Some people give gifts for their own reasons. Some of those gifts are personal and carry a special meaning to it.
A person who gets a gift from that person can usually decide what to do with that gift. Depending on how they feel about the gift, it might not mean anything to them. But the giver of the gift feels joy to give it to someone else.
But what happens when the person, who gets the gift, decides to either throw away the gift or re-gift it away? Can it mean that they don't like the gift? Or does it mean the person who gave it to them thinks that their friend means nothing to them?
How do you think the giver will feel when they find out their gift was given away or thrown away by their friend? I can tell you that it will lead to a very brief discussion and follows with an end of friendship. PERMANENT end of Friendship.
I walk down stairs to my storage room, some where among all my boxes is a box full of various objects that hold special meaning to me from many of my friends in all my life. I don't know why I "collected" all this stuff, but then I realized that I treasured friendship from many friends of mine, even the very ones who cast me aside and went on in life to other friends. But their gift remains in my hands and reminds me of how special friendship with these people meant to me. Even those that I had back in high school.
One day when I have my own place, I'll put these objects around the house to remind me that friends are always welcome in my home and that I have and had wonderful friendship with a lot of people.
But, if you decide to throw away a gift that was given to you, what happens when you later learn that your friend passes on? You don't have anything left to hold on to the memories of your friend in life. If you got pictures of your friend(s), you'd better treasure them the most. Because once they are gone, they're gone.
If your friend gives you a gift, treasure it. If you give it away or throw it away, then friendship has no meaning for you until it's too late and then it comes back to haunt you.
Many friends come and go in life. But those that remain and stay are the true, loyal, and special friends in life. Gifts from them make life easy and fun.

Good-bye Teddy!
Today should be a somber day for this nation of ours. We have lost a man in which has been in the Senate far too long. But his end was coming! Especially when the events unfolded during the reception for President Obama that Senator Edward "Ted" Kennedy fell ill and was taken to the hospital. That should have been a *WARNING* to not only himself, but to this nation that he could be passing.
Today, Teddy Kennedy passed away. This man could have been a president in our lives, but choose to remain in the U.S. Senate. Today, Ted Kennedy passed away.
Link: http://www.cnn.com/2009/POLITICS/08/26/obit.ted.kennedy/index.html
Some people will feel glad that he has passed away. Others will feel that this man has done a lot of things which has put our nation in it's own conflict with it's morals and laws. Sadly to say, Ted Kennedy may have done some good for people, but not everything is good. I respect him and yet, seeing him gone now is sad. The person who will replace him in the senate, had better serve in honor and honesty. Just hope the State of Massachusetts avoids any type of a Blagovitch mess and puts in the right person for the job.
Today, I ask my readers to please pause and reflect and pray for the comfort of the Kennedy family. Fare-well, Teddy. You will be missed.

Texting and phone while Driving? DONT RISK IT!
Penn State is not the only state that is cracking down on drunk driving. They're also cracking down on people who text and drive as well as talking on the cell phone and drive. Many other states are also getting serious about the drunk driving, texting, and cell phone use in people's cars. It's not just the police observation of you while their car is parked along side of the road in a hidden spot, but of many of the special speed cameras that can take a peek at you in the car as well.
It is adding up in the driving law world. Some places like England are running advertisements on their TV of what can happen if you text and drive or use the cell phone and drive. The results are very ugly out there. As the college season is starting, I remind a lot of people that between now and December (and through the holidays), police will be watching you on the road. If you get caught and you try to hide the cell phone or sidekick from you, don't. Obey and listen to the police. They already observed you. It's too late to do anything defensively except if you are a deaf driver, you got a right to request for an interpreter.
Meanwhile, the Little League world series is going on in my town. You can catch all the action on ESPN and ESPN2. Check on the LLWS page to see who's leading this year:
http://www.littleleague.org/series/2009divisions/llbb/series.htm
Soon, the play off series begins and it could be any time heading for the big championship game on Sunday, August 30th on ABC tv!
So, it's the last week of Summer before September begins. Gallaudet is in NSO week. NTID starts soon. PSU starts a football game soon as well. Going to be an INTERESTING Fall 2009.
Biggest question of the year is, will the Eagles win the Super Bowl behind McNabb and Vick? We'll find out soon.
Have a great week!

Remember, police are watch you and if you get caught, not only you will be fined, but your insurance will go up and you will have a POLICE RECORD that will follow you for the rest of your life! I hope I made it clear that you only got ONE LIFE. That's it! There's no SECOND CHANCES here!

Ban SCOTLAND AND ENGLAND PRODUCTS!
There is a massive and growing outrage over the Government of Scotland's decision to release the Lockerbie bomber on "compassionate grounds" to allow him to die in the country of Lybia. It is a horrible mistake that could vibrate through out the world that Lybia has done something to FORCE this release and it's happened.
Now there is a Ban of every product made by Scotland and England going on. How long will this ban happen, I don't know. But I'm hearing about it. link: http://www.cnn.com/2009/WORLD/europe/08/24/scotland.lockerbie/index.html
But Scotland's political future to becoming an independent nation from England could find itself staying permanently attached to England as a punishment for the future. It is a sad day for the nation of England and Scotland as a result of this mess.
If this bomber lives for more than 3 months, it will be a deeper shame across many nations to come. I say DAMN to this bomber and may he die a painful death much worse than prostate cancer he has!

Would you make your hearing kid DEAF on purpose?
G'day Everyone.
I had to do it. I had to make a post of discussion after James Kittell posted on the youtube.com a joke. See for yourself: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y3wI8OPlULs
James may have thought it to be a great joke. But his timing of his posting is quite wrong. Especially coming on the heels of my previous post of discussion of Jamie Berke's posting on her Deafness.about.com site. If you don't remember what I mean, Link: http://thedeafsherlock.blogspot.com/2009/08/against-deafnessaboutcom-post.html
If James had waited for a few months later to post his video, it might have been accepted as joke. But now I find that I need to make a discussion about it. I know I may cause a bit of *flame wars*, but that's not my intention here. It's a subject of debate.
We know hearing parents are making attempts to make their deaf child hearing as possible though the use of cochlear implants (CI). Every time we hear this happen, it brings a response from the deaf community about it.
But what if the opposite were to happen? What if Deaf parents really wanted to find a way to make their hearing child totally DEAF ? Would it provoke the same type of response from the hearing community as the deaf community has done so far in the CI debate or worse? Frankly to say, in my opinion, it would be worse.
But the bigger question is: If hearing parents have a right to put the CI on a deaf child, then should the deaf parents be granted the SAME RIGHTS to be allowed the decision to make their hearing child DEAF?
The moral question is: would deaf parents, if given that right of decision to make their hearing child deaf, actually carry out that type of an idea? Would they actually want to do it? Or would they rather cherish that they have a hearing kid rather than a deaf kid?
You see, it concerns me that parents (hearing or deaf) will do anything that it takes to make their child to be put on an equal ground in the family / community. But if we go bent out of shape to "perfect" our children into the image of the hearing or deaf family, then we are robbing the way God naturally made them of their lives for His purpose here on earth. We go on thinking that we are better than God.
So there's the crux of debate. Would you do it? Would you make your hearing child deaf?

Anger at Scotland / LLWS begins
I am angry that Scotland released the Lockerbie Bomber from prison and flew him to Lybia. It is a shame. This bomber doesn't deserve to die outside of prison. He needs to DIE in prison. So I hope when he gets to Libya, This Lockerbie Bomber will be given a choice of weapon and told to go "compassionately" kill himself fast. This bomber will wind up in hell for eternity! God will most certainly judge him! Scotland, you ought to hang your heads in shame!
Meanwhile, Scotland events overshadow the start of the Little League World Series that begins tomorrow. But most of the LLWS events are happening today. The teams have arrived. The hotels are full in the area. The media is here.
And if you want to keep up of who's winning in the world series this year, Link:
http://www.littleleague.org/series/2009divisions/llbb/series.htm
I'm not sure who's going to win this year, but the 16 teams that are in this LLWS this year ought to bring in a lot of interest in the Little League Baseball games. So be sure to watch the games. Don't expect to see me there because I don't bother to attend the games.
Enjoy the weekend!

against the deafness.about.com post!
I'm mad and I'm mad about child abuse. Especially when a parent get doctor's advice to FORCE a young kid to wear a CI! Read the Deafness.about. com post and judge for yourself:
http://deafness.about.com/b/2009/08/10/possibly-traumatized-4-year-old-wont-wear-implants.htm
So now you read that post. I'm going to say a big salute to this SMART 4 year old boy for doing the right thing, REJECTING the cochlear implant (CI) that was forced on him. Worried mother has every right to be worried now. She's done a huge mistake as a parent and not being patient with her kid. Forcing a kid to wear a CI is like trying to hope a forced treatment will lead to a normal hearing life. NOT ALWAYS! I say to "worried mother" of this advice: back away from forced wearing of the CI on your kid. Introduce him to deaf friends who know sign language. Show him those that accept CI. But respect him from now on. Your kid is already in a defensive mode for the rest of his life because he's afraid of what someone else is going to do to his body.
It's going to take time and counseling to help this kid to sort out his damaged feelings.
I look back on my own life. I was 4 years old when my parents discovered I was deaf. At the time, hearing aids were the best ideal use. I tickled and laughed when my ears were first filled for the ear molds. About 2 weeks later, I was roughly held by my head and forced to wear the hearing aids. When they were turned on, I was greeted by sounds that I could not understand.
In 30 seconds, I ripped both of them out of my ears and threw them across the room. The nurse made a diving catch for them. I was held down and the hearing aids were forced back in.
By that time, my loving dad was roaring at me and saying "KEEP THE DAMN HEARING AIDS IN YOUR EAR" loudly. I screamed so loud that I ripped the hearing aids off again.
Possibly Traumatized like the 4 year old? I was definitely traumatized. My parents only tried it one more time and then quit. I was punished and locked in my room with only my toys to play with. But then one day, they took me to a place and they locked me in my room with NOTHING but the hearing aids. I was being given a choice. I was held in a room for 8 hours a day. No potty breaks, nothing. This went on for about a week. Finally on the 8th day, in a mean mood, I finally put on the hearing aids. I was praised and treated like royalty. But punished the moment we got home because I tried to ditch the hearing aids into the toilet! My mom caught me in the act of it.
In the years of growing up. I took every opportunity to take off my hearing aid and remind my folks that I'm deaf. I was punished for it and forced to wear my hearing aid. I fought back to say "I'm deaf and you can't take that away from me". But the only thing that they did take away from me was forcing me to becoming the first deaf mainstream kid that would graduate from Fairport High School. Some dream of theirs.
After my choice for NTID, my parents and I grew apart. I plunged into the deaf world that I had to learn by trial and error. Yes, I got hurt by a lot of people within the deaf community. It was not easy life to learn the deaf culture when you spent all your years with the hearing community.
In the past times of reflections that I had with my mom, she asked me this: " Would it have made a difference in you if you went to a deaf school?". I told her right back and said " It would have made a hell of a difference in my life to have Deaf friends a lot more than hearing friends!" .
I asked her WHY, as parents, not to let me go to a deaf school when MSSD would have accepted me? They said that they loved me too much to be out of their sight and so far away.
Well, there is such a thing as overkill of love and forcing hearing aids on someone. I was never given counseling for the trauma that I went through. But, I made my peace to wear my hearing aid now because it became my choice and my acceptance. But when I take my hearing aid off and embrace the quiet world that I have grown up with, I feel all right with myself. The feeling that a small victory that is mine, as an adult, to wear the hearing aid WHEN I CHOOSE AND WANT TO. NOT WHEN I'M FORCED TO.
I hope worried mother will take the road of love and patience from now on. She has to let her son be in control now. She has to rebuild her trust with him. Build it with Sign Language. Give him all the time in the world and show him love. When he comes to his acceptance of his CI, he'll put it on. Only then when he WANTS to hear and learn with it, he will say so. NOT when he is forced to do so.
My prayer is with this kid. The mother and the doctors picked a poor battle that they can't win. Even when the moment they decided on the CI.
Just the same as my parents. They picked a wrong battle and have lost ever since. They know it. Worried mom knows it already. So do many parents of CI kids. They one thing they should do is accept defeat and tell their kids every day "Love and accept them for what they are (being deaf as God made and intended of) and forgive their parents for the mistakes they made". That is the only path of compassion that they can offer to a troubled kid with a forced CI.

GPSing the drive! (technology, for better or worse!)
My post is really called "technology for better or worse". Some times technology is good, some times technology is bad.
I'll start with the bad. Ever have a day you go to staples to get some resumes scanned? Only does the computer say "unable to scan on to disk, permission to OVERWRITE?" and I told to the nice lady "Do not overwrite. Just give me a new disk". Things OK, or so I thought.
Later that Thursday night at 8:45pm, I'm wanting to print a few things off my old disk. Load it up and it shows something else! I'm going "Oh Techno horror! where's my old files!". Ever do a fast drive from your house to staples? Oh man! I get there just as they're closing and pound on the window pane door! "let me in! I need to see your computer!". Clerk let me in. Manager came over and I told him what happened. We go over to the copy center computer. As fate would have it, the damn machine had NO recovery file program since everything runs off a corp server (how evil can they get to be?) At least the manger was nice to say that if I can find all my originals, he'll scan them in for free on Friday morning. I said, "oh boy.. what a day".
Next day it's Friday Am. I have a job interview with the Social Security Admin that day. (yes, folks. A fed job). Long drive.
I get down to Staples bright and early and got the scanning done fast. *phew* (and made back up copies as a precaution).
My sister Fran loaned me her TomTom. That was a GPS (global Positioning System). (If you are thinking a Tomtom is something else, you got a dirty mind!) Now, I've seen Garmin GPS and TomToms. But using this? I've already printed out the directions from MapQuest.com But my sister said "just try it.". So I thought, "ok. if it gets me lost, I'll have something else to blame on.".
Amazingly, the TomTom GPS worked wonders. Even when I knew another way, it did a PLOTTING and kept up with me. I must have drove it crazy. But the nice thing is that the GPS did lead me to my job interview in the Baltimore, MD area and back!
If you want to argue in the comments of which is the better GPS device to use, please do so. The only thing I hated about the TomTom was this raspy voice that sounded like someone sitting on the side seat and yelling which way to turn. Good thing I didn't have that in person. *whew*
The interview was TOUGH! I'm not going to reveal how it was like for others who have to interview with the SSA, but I will say it was TOUGH! So put on a smile, do the best, be prepared, and just be happy. Now it's just a waiting time to see if I get the job or not.
Only one thing. The next time I've got an interview that's more than 3 hours away from home, take an overnight motel! Day tripping was rough. I liked the GPS. Not sure I'll invest in one, but it's nice to know where you are going so it's kind of a better technology out there.
Came back home and slept out. It was an exhausting Friday.
Enjoy the weekend.

Farmer Builds Bible Temple.
I rarely make a second post in one day, but this one I could NOT pass up.
Go to this link: http://www.letterofrepentance.com/FarmerbuildsmodelofBiblicaltemple.html
There is a story of a farmer who has built a model of the jewish temple as described in the Word of God. It's more like King Herod's temple. This man is so impressive, it reminds me of just how much the old temple looks like long ago and how much it should be put back on the temple mount where the current muslim Dome of Rock stands upon.
I believe in faith of God. There is a 3rd jewish temple going to be built in the very moment God commends the nation of Israel to build it. I have heard that many of the jews have already built many things related to the coming jewish temple. Just how soon could it happen? I do not know, but I believe in faith that it could happen at any time. Of course, the muslim community would prevent the jews from building near the Dome of Rock, but if God does what He's suppose to do as owner of this world, it will happen by faith.
As you look at this farmer's temple model that he has built, I say it's very impressive.
Keep in prayer for the Nation of Israel.

Political things of Today.
Well, it's a political note day. It's an August 2009 mess for many political people. Namely those who serve in Congress and in the State Congress. What I do know is this:
Top Story: The Obama administration ought to be listening very closely to what the people are saying to many of the political representatives: "WE DON'T WANT FEDERAL HEALTH CARE INSURANCE!". If you have seen many of the town hall meetings on the CNN, it's brutal! One local lawmaker, I'm not using his name, has gotten concerned for his life. He doesn't like what's going on. The Obama Health care Crisis could play a very pivotal role in the upcoming fall elections across the nation. We could see many of these long time political people booted out in favor of NEW people in the offices. I'd say it's about damn time it happens.
Lately, The PA State Budget has not yet passed. It's still an on-going battle. Many of the state's political people are also at risk to lose their jobs in this Fall elections. Will the upcoming challengers be successful? I'd say watch carefully out there. Anything can happen anywhere.
Political boy, Micah Brown, my favorite political writer has been laying low these days. He hasn't written a post for a while. But don't worry, folks. He'll come back to post again on the 'net soon. Right now he's very busy in his life and he's doing what he has to do. Good Luck, Micah!
A friend of mine has asked me to report that he's been hit by ID Theft as well. He's asked me to re post the info that I have on my blog here. So here it is: http://thedeafsherlock.blogspot.com/2008/09/when-id-theft-hits-home.html
This is at a time I ask people to go to my previous blog about ID Theft in the above link. The stolen NTID laptop has yet to be resolved and finding out who has it so the person can be sued for all the criminal activity that person has done. As I encourage you, make sure your computers are secured and that your passwords are complex (but easy for you) so that your ID remains secure. Just make sure your credit reports have a fraud alert put on them so that you don't get burned for something you didn't do.
Little League World Series (LLWS) is just about to hit my town next week. Most of the teams are already starting to arrive for Fresh Air camping and getting settled into the area for a temporary time. There's going to be a very interesting Little League Baseball game going on. ESPN and ESPN2 are expected to be here. Rumor has it that President Obama might come to throw out the first ball, but I told people who say those rumors: "He's too damn busy defending himself from the health care crisis.". So that being said, life goes on.
A lot of rumors are floating around about the GU Presidential Search Process. I'm ignoring what's happening but I'm praying that many of the people who work on the PSAC for GU will be picking the RIGHT candidates who will replace current Gallaudet University President Davila. But the only thing I should say that PSAC should get the Gallaudet Alumni involved more so that there is total support in our GU community. This is very important time right now.
College Football season is about to start soon! The Bisons (GU) and Nittany Lions (PSU) will soon be in their football camps and preparing for a season that should be good one. Will both teams have a successful season? We'll soon find out.
As summer winds down, people are preparing for the fall season. Many drivers ought to be on the look out for that yellow school bus. Be careful out there. For the college students, I wish them the best as they try to find financial help to pay for the classes.
So have a great weekend.

Employers: End the credit checks!
I'm just back on the blog after a short break. But Jamie Berke sent me some interesting posting about what's being reported in the New York Times
Link: http://www.nytimes.com/2009/08/07/business/07credit.html?_r=1
If companies that interview you and then make a tender offer of a job to you and then pull it before you had a chance to say: "I accept", you can bet that they looked at your credit history. It is pure madness that even if our work experiences and our credit history has become to say to employers " If you are NOT PERFECT, WE DON'T WANT YOU!" We should be given a chance to defend our credit history. Even if it means to file a notice of a lawsuit and tell these companies to STOP using credit history as a way to DENY a job to a jobless applicant. Could these companies find out that we're deaf and handicapped? It wouldn't surprise me. After all, we have our debts of school loans and our attendance of schools.
It seems to me that companies are only taking the best and debit less people for work. But one thing is, if this practice of using credit checks over work histories and references, someone going to go the full mile of a lawsuit one day and make sure it reaches the high court. If it ever does, thousands of people will join it for a class action lawsuit against employers.
Today, I make a personal plea to employers: STOP USING CREDIT CHECKS ON APPLICANTS! I think it insults everyone in this age of economic downturns because they need a job in order to get their debts paid..
By the time the economics picks up, people will be fighting for work. Expect a huge mob of people at every job fair of every hearing and disabled people.
If employers only take the best, then by the time 10 years passes, what will most of do with out work? Don't ask me. Employers will take the most blame.
I hope employers will go back to depend on references and employment checks. We need jobs and employment more than being turned down in our credit history.

Becareful of how you post!
I think I'm catching up to my Summer already. I can already feel of just how close Fall 2009 is going to be. So I needed to say something important today in my blog. I figured this would help everyone.
We are all concerned about thieves that raid our homes. Almost anyone will take a chance to break into some one's house to steal something because they need to feed their drug habits or worse. But the only time they'll break into your home if they know nobody is doing any house sitting or house watching or when they know your home is empty.
So how does a thief know you are NOT home? It is very easy.
First, a thief scans the daily newspaper. He watches the orbits or death notices. Then looks at the times of the funeral / grave site times. That's when he goes to the street early and watches everyone that leaves the target home. He'll wait about a half hour. Once he gets confident that nobody's watching the home, he strikes. A thief won't care if the home is alarmed or not. He knows by the time someone calls 911, he can be out in 5 minutes. This is a cruel thief. He compounds the grief of the family by stealing on a day that is meant to be a final "good-bye" to their loved one. Woe to that thief if he gets caught of this very act. He may think he'll get away with this act on earth, but when the thief dies and faces the ULTIMATE JUDGE: KING JESUS, he has NO HOPE of MERCY at all! He'll be wishing in eternity that he was caught and jailed here on earth.
Second, there is a growing crime trend happening now. It's on our social networking sites. Thieves are now watching our posts of what we put on our myspace, twitter, facebook, and any other social networking sites out there. When we say we're going somewhere, we usually do mean we are gone. That's when a thief will strike our homes.
So it means you got to change your social networking account a bit. Don't let it be OPEN for everyone to see. Set it to FAMILY and FRIENDS ONLY. That's the best secure thing that there is. Limit who sees what you post. If you are going away, say that you are BUSY AROUND THE HOUSE. When you get back, everyone will understand that you were "BUSY". Bring back the pictures of your trip if you do.
Third, in the blog world: Don't post that you are going away. Say NOTHING. After your trip, post about it. THINK SECURITY!
Thieves won't like me. They won't like my post. They won't like my suggestions that I'm giving out today. If they threaten me, I'll back up with the police and shiny handcuffs and stick them in jail with charges on them that they'll wind up with a record that will haunt them for the rest of their lives.
If you are a thief that reads this post, then I urge you to change your heart, your mind, and your life. The act of thinking to take someone else's common good will wind you up not only of being caught and judged here on earth, but also caught and judged by God as well when he reviews your life. Here on earth, you have a lawyer who'll try to defend you. But in eternity in the court of God? You will wish God will let you have a lawyer because you'll have to defend your life and you will FAIL! In both cases, the verdict will be *GUILTY!*. So I ask you this: don't steal from a grieving family or friends. You will regret it. Don't believe me? Check what this site says about God reviewing your life: http://www.chick.com/reading/tracts/0001/0001_01.asp
http://www.chick.com/reading/tracts/0098/0098_01.asp <-- for thieves to read!
So dear readers, protect your home. have someone watch your place when you go away. Be pro-active about SECURITY. Above all, be safe for you and your family.

Hey employers! Got a Noisy job? I want it!
You know, I am fretting over the job market lately. I've done everything from dressing the best I can, hair cuts, shaving down to the point my face looks like a *LIGHT HOUSE ON A BODY* (wonder if there's a job for me at night on Cape Fear?), and having *army shiny* shoes.
But, that's no longer a case these days. It's all about what you do on the 'net these days as well as social networking sites. Big *sigh*.
Anyhow, Jamie Berke posted something on her Deafness.about.com blog and here's the link:
http://deafness.about.com/b/2009/08/01/lose-your-hearing-because-of-your-job.htm
I said to myself: "If people are not taking noisy jobs because they don't want to lose their hearing, then I want it! Just as long as I can take off my hearing aid, I can focus on the job a lot better!".
When I thought about that, I said that I could take any loud job and do it better than a hearing person could do. Only if that happened in real life more often for me.
When I worked in a very noisy data center some years ago, like a computer printing room, nearly every hearing co-worker hated that room. There was one time that a co-worker challenged our supervisor that if I could do the job in the printing room alone and better than them, I could have their job and they'd wind up my console job. I took the challenge. Once I had a strobe light installed on the phone, I put my hearing aid right by the phone and got right to work. I loved the printer room. Noise? Without a hearing aid, it didn't bother me not one bit. I worked that room like a pro! Things were done faster and I did the job so easy, it was fun to me.
My co-workers got jealous with me. They wished they were deaf. I told them "Don't wish for deafness. Be happy you can hear!".
When I lived and worked in the DC area, I have never forgotten of how bad it was working in an office. I hate phones. I had to deal with them often. But I loved to work with instant messenger of AIM and Yahoo. Even though some businesses don't mind that they should give their deaf employees a videophone, but they'd rather have a direct access of employees through the IMs.
Some times I like a quiet office. But I rather face a noisy computer room where I can do my job, take off my hearing aid and work professionally.
There are many noisy jobs out there. How many will actually quit and how many deaf people can be hired to replace them? That's the question in this age of economics.
As I don't have a job these days, I still search hard. When I need a camping time, I used to go to knoebels amusement park, my friend and I were often given the LOUDEST place in the campground. That is right where the roller coasters are. I never minded that loud camp area. People got jealous. The years later, I'd learn that hearing people would adapt and learn to live in that noisy corner of the campground. They'd pretend they're deaf too to get the site. I said "That's OK. They'll have a temporary hearing loss after their camping time."
As summer is starting to wane, many internships are ending. Employers will soon advertise for their replacements. I hope and pray I'm one of the people that will snap up a permanent job as the economy is suppose to be picking up and ending this recession. A true end? We should hope so. If I ever break lucky for another job in a noisy environment, I'm going to be happy as I can ever be and being thankful that I'm proud to be deaf.

Something Good POSTED in my Comments.
Something good has been posted in my comments today. But I don't know if the link is still active. So let me show you the comments:
**********************************************************************************
Hi Steve,
I'm writing from StoryCorps, America's largest nonprofit national oral history project. I thought you and your blog readers would be interested in listening to StoryCorps' latest story to broadcast on NPR this morning. Bob Panara, who has been deaf since he was 10, talks to his friend Greg Livadas about his love of baseball and two encounters with a couple of the sport's all-time greats. You can listen to the interview (about 2 minutes) here: http://www.storycorps.org/listen/stories/bob-panara , or read a transcript of the interview below. Mr. Panara's stories was recorded in partnership with the National Technical Institute for the Deaf in Rochester, NY.
StoryCorps is an independent nonprofit project whose mission is to honor and celebrate one another's lives through listening. Since 2003, tens of thousands of people from across the country have interviewed family and friends through StoryCorps. Each conversation is recorded on a free CD to take home and share and is also archived for generations to come at the American Folklife Center at the Library of Congress. Millions listen to the award-winning broadcasts on public radio and the Internet. Select stories have also been published in the New York Times bestselling book, Listening Is an Act of Love.
I hope you take the time to listen and share.
Thanks,
Amber Leigh
Robert Panara and Greg Livadas
Robert Panara and Greg Livadas came to StoryCorps in Rochester, NY. Here, Bob tells his friend Greg about his lifelong love of baseball, and his encounters with famous ball players.
Bob Panara:
My name is Robert Panara. I just became 89 years old, but I became deaf from spinal meningitis at the age of 10. My father knew how much I loved baseball. And Babe Ruth was my hero. And this is 1931. So he wrote to the Yankees and he asked if I could possibly meet the Bambino, and they arranged it. So we went to the ball game that day, we sat about ten rows from the field, and before the game, my father gives the letter from the Yankees to the usher, usher goes down to the dugout, comes back with the Babe. Big fellow, huge. He says, "Hi kid! How you doing?" Shaking hands with the Bambino was a dream come true. And later on, I realized my father, he was trying to get my hearing back.
Greg Livadas: So your father thought that the shock of meeting him--
Bob: Oh yes, the Bambino, wow! (laughs) But I still remained as deaf as a post (laughs).
And I remember later on taking my son to Memorial Stadium. After the game, my son says, "Hey Dad, I have a ball. I would like one of the players to sign it." Brooks Robinson, the third baseman came out, and I said "Hey Brooks! Excuse me, but my son wonders if you can give him an autograph." Brooks, he looks at me, and then he signs with his hands, "Are you deaf?" I said, "Hey! You know sign language! Where did you learn?" He said, "Well, I grew up in Little Rock, Arkansas. Only blocks from the School for the Deaf, so I used to play with the deaf kids." He became my idol after that.
Anyway, to this day, I live, breathe and die baseball. I look at it as my religion. The stadium, it's my second home (laughs).

That is the comment that Amber Leigh left for me. I'm thankful for her because I'm still composing an article that I want to post later.
I hope everyone has had a good week. I'm hearing lots of things happening with the Caption Action 2 stuff. (Jamie's overjoyed right now). I've had a little drama in my personal life of which I nearly posted on here. Thankfully, the drama's settled down and things are fine. So, today's August 1st. Summer has officially passed already (almost!). So, lots to share with you in my next post soon.
Tonight is movie madness night at MIDNIGHT at my local movie house! *whoo*! ought to be fun.
