Possible deaf school closing!

G'day Everyone.

The deaf community in this nation must rally to help a deaf school in Morganton, North Carolina.

In these days, it's economic hardship every where. Even for a state too. Deaf schools are important to us. But closing one? It's a tough decision, tough choices, and it brings out the worst and best in people.

Closing a deaf school in the state hurts the local deaf community. For parents of a deaf child, even they have to look into alternatives to educate their deaf children else where.

Even though it hurts all us, the deaf community must try to work with the state and those in authority of the state. If a deaf school has to close for the sake of economics for the state of North Carolina, let us document that school well and remember it. This is not easy for any one.

And if you do go to the public meetings in North Carolina, please be respectful.

Support the North Carolina School for the Deaf.

Till next post, I'll clue you in later.

Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) which covers public entities like government bodies and business like public schools is responsible for making all public schools accessible to people with hearing disabilities so they don't have to go to costly specialized education programs for the deaf. Its high time we make all public schools accessible to deaf people so we can eliminate the need for pricey deaf schools. Society needs to come to their common sense and parents need to start being their deaf children's advocates by making their nearest public schools accessible to deaf students. Don't forget the newer deaf generations are being raised with new technology that makes them readily interfaceble with their hearing peers and the costs of accommodating these are far less than the costs of accommodating the "Generation X" deafies.
