Fraternity make-over

G'day everyone!

Today, I was surfing the news and by chance I landed on Yahoo news. Immediately in BOLD (unread news)that caught my eye was something about a fraternity. I clicked in the link and behold! It was a fraternity that wanted to MOVE IT'S IMAGE of the "beer type animal house party" to a *gasp* respectable image! If you don't believe me, then read this link:

Every greek society on the college campus ought to start considering of changing their very image. Especially at Gallaudet University! Schools that are labeled "Party College" will not get the desired students that they so desperately want. Party Colleges may have lax admissions to get in, but when it comes to schools that have TOUGH admissions standards, like Gallaudet University does, it should be clear to fraternities that it's time to shut off that beer tap, forget pledges, and treat every person who wants to join the greek society with respect.

When I looked at both RIT and Gallaudet fraternities that I wanted to join long ago, I already had a high standard set for myself. I wanted to be involved in a respectable organization. But what I saw was nothing but beer, loud music, smoking, many other things that I can't tell you what I saw. To me, seeing these events behind the public eye saddens me. It was the Janus effect.

But now there is hope. If Sigma Phi Epsilon of University of Missouri-Columbia can make a impact on other fraternities, then it will be a more honorable society to get involved on a collge campus.

Some kids will say "Hey lighten up, old dude! Yer young only once, so it's time to party up!". I'd like to tell them this : when you see the party effects hit you when you are a senior at that college, Your GPA will be so low, you'll realize your years have been a waste there. Employers look for the high GPA students these days.

As far as this goes, let's hope the fraternites are put on notice now. Animal house is on the way out for sure. Respect is coming in!

Semper FI.
