G'day Everyone!
Lent season is about to wrap up soon. I hope many of you have been spending time in reflection of prayer and enjoying the weather out there (depending on where the dang storms are).
Lately, I'm wondering why the event organizers for ColorFest that is coming to Gallaudet University would choose Good Friday to Easter Sunday to have the Annual ColorFest? For those that wonder what I mean about ColorFest : http://colorfest.webs.com/. Yes, it's a Deaf Gay/Lesbian event that's happening April 10-12. I ask myself: Why that important and HOLY weekend of all days? I'll never understand.
As of lately, I've been doing a lot of personal reflections. Some of it is due to the economic conditions that are facing our nation. Especially among the deaf and disabled community out there. There's a lot of concerns and challenges of trying to convince the employer you can do this job and getting hired. Employers are, as I said before, are picking the best people for the job in this market.
The economic conditions are also making me consider the possibility of going back to classes for a another degree. I know several friends who are considering the possibility to head back to classes in either their state's home colleges or going to back to Gallaudet or NTID. I know it sounds like a plan but I do not like having to take a debt again.
Just the same, nearly every state civil services are dealing with people taking tests and filling out applications for the state jobs. Same is with the Federal Government too.
So I hope everyone looking for a job will find some good fortune out there. Keep looking and praying!
But, economics is one thing. Another is about quality of life. Since I've been home from DC over my disaster of an employment with a major company awhile back, I've been taking care of the house for my mom. God has been a blessing for me, but there are times when cabin fever and need for deaf friends do get to me. The screw up of my VP remote reminds me of just how dull my life is around my home. I do expect the replacement remote to arrive this week, but you know, I need some in-person, LIVE deaf friend, human interaction for a while. It gets boring to talk on the 'net, AIM, and VP.
At the same time, I was reading the comics section of the news paper today. This reminded me what took place at my uncle's funeral awhile back(which I didn't get a chance to say it). The comic paper picture I'm reading from is called SPEED BUMP
(if you can see the picture.. good!) It struck back at me two things.
First, back at my uncle's funeral, a man was whining why he had to come to this funeral and complained that it would have been better to stick a web cam and microphone and broadcast it on the Internet. The funeral director was going to handle it, but I teamed up with him and asked the man to step outside. Out there, I lectured the poor SOB of the reasons for the TRADITIONAL funeral here. I said to this man "If you don't want to be here, then just go home. Obviously, my uncle choose you a funny friend which are not!". He loudly cursed me and the funeral director to him to leave and not show up the next day of which he'd be arrested. (he didn't).
Looking back at the speed bump picture above, I got struck with this: How much possible might it be in the future if funerals were to become easy to attend if the priest was to bring a high power laptop and hold the funeral services either in the church or cemetery? (you better hope there's a high power WI-FI tower out there!)
But, sadly to say, I think many of us still need that closure to see the body of our friends/family to say the last good-bye in life. If funerals were to become *THAT* easy out there, I don't think everyone would be happy about that. I just hope we never become that type of a society. Funerals by web cam. *shudder*
Just the same as I continue my reflection, I realize I'm more than ready to move away from my mom. Trying to find a place to live and be a roommate with someone is something I'm trying to do at the moment. But where and when are the very questions that are on my mind.
Two weeks to go to Good Friday/Easter. Don't get too hung up on the March Madness Basketball stuff. It's been pretty wild. Then again, it will be interesting.
Till next post, enjoy the day.

Webcam funerals are becoming very popular, if relatives live very far way and travel arraignments are next to impossible or extremely expensive. This explosion began with the funeral of Princess Diana, and even more so with Pope John Paul II, for Catholics around the world to see his funeral and has expanded since. This helps people grieve, and can be close to their loved one without being there. The Wall Street Journal covered this an age ago.
