Another Taser INCIDENT!

G'day Everyone!

Just fresh out in the news. A friend of mine, JIM, has found information of another such incident of a Police/deaf/taser incident!
Here is the link: http://www.kwch.com/global/story.asp?s=7446220

I am more surprised and angry that police departments are NOT FOLLOWING the ADA law and police officers should be taking a course to recognize sign language (apart from gang signs) in the deaf community.

Donnell Williams is one lucky man. Wet and wearing only a towel after getting out of a tub when he got tasered. I hope Williams retains a lawyer and seeks compensation from the Wichita, KS police department.

It's time for the deaf community to rise up and start to complain to every police department. Don't taser first and ask questions later. Police departments better start getting their act together. If they don't.. multi-million dollar lawsuits will not only just cripple the police departments, but the city as well.

Semper FI to Jim for his tip!

I'm trying to discredit Ridor's "Fear the police" theme that he has used so much.

If police departments were to use basic sign language, things would be much simpler for everyone involved. Yes, we, the deaf, need the police once in a while.
But for something like ridor has said in the past that when his family calls the police (the incident where neighbor's dog attacked ridor's cat) and the police went to talk with the neighbors first (they're hearing) it means something OBVIOUSLY wrong with THAT police department!

And yes, Jamie berke has made comments in the past on Deafness.about.com as well as in her own personal blog.

we should not have to fear police. But the day we are faced with bad cops? Just be rest assured, we can go after them with good, TOUGH lawyers. :-)

(not to this issue) But I talk about law enforcement officers. I learn from the network of those officers use marijuaua and other drugs. That mean they hide them away from the public. So the public still think they are saints. Besides, they have lies, too. Please bring your camcorder(s)or camera or mobile or cell. Take video of them what incidents the scenes have taken if they are bad to the people. If so, put them on YouTube Video to show the public. Or bring or send your video to TV news stations. Give Shame on them. Be united and cooperate to beat them. You would WIN.

I think Police Department everywhere including at Gallaudet University, NTID, and CSUN should know sign language to communicate with Deaf people. Even the Police at Gallaudet has no excuse for not able to communicate to the deaf student during the protest last year. I know IKJ failed to get them the training but they failed to heat up forcing IKJ to get them training. Now is the time for Police to know some basic sign language everywhere. They never know if they will ever encounter a deaf people at any time. Also I won't forget the time one deaf student died being handicuff at Gallaudet and he was trying to tell the Police he had problem breathing and they failed communication with him. That deaf student died unfortunley all because the Police failed to help him in time.
