The hacker's favorite M.O.

G'day everyone.

Right now, I had to help another friend of mine this morning to delete a friend of theirs on FB that has been hit by this hacker that has been attacking people nearly left and right on almost every one's list.
Usually it's a facebook invite to a fake profile.

But another way this guy tries to get people into his sphere of orbit is this favorite M.O. (Method of Operation... EMAIL!:

Ian HACK sent you a message.

Subject: Hello

The above is the method of Email that is being sent out to some people on Facebook and to various emails from this hacker. I only changed the screen name of the person because the real hacker has been reported for using my friend's screen name on Facebook.

Now some of the things that tips you off to this fake message message are these. I have bolded several areas for your reading: 1. When this guy mentions a lot of "money", it's an eye catcher. In other words, if you are deaf and in an economic situation, people are going to be looking for fast money to make. This guy is looking for a fast buck for himself or better yet, your information to steal.

2. "deaf help commission". Folks NO SUCH deaf help commission exists. I searched. It's NOT there folks..

3. if the guy in the email says to you "I saw your name and the man told me you won too", He's just started his bull shit line and hopes the deaf person he's trying to scam off of is low educated and isn't wise to the world. So he's hope to tell you that you won some non-existent prize that you never entered. His goal is to say.. "you won".. but the only thing the guy wants to win is your trust and info.

4. When he tells you how to claim your money through an email link he says of, DON'T DO IT! Don't give him any chance to do anything to you.

Whatever happens, do yourself a favor. Do NOT email the guy any info! Of the invite or the email of the screen name of your friend, you may not have any choice but to do the de-friending and click on report/block on it.
report as a phishing scam situation right on face book. If you know your friend's text message pager or VP, tell him/her that their FB or email account has been compromised.

As long as we are all on alert, we can continue to ask questions and defeat this hacker that is raiding our community here. We must also hope that Facebook will put stronger security measures up and make it more restricted and harder to log in. It may not be easy to do, but our social network is being destroyed by this person and that can't not be tolerated nor ignored.

Let's work together and defeat this hacker!

Semper FI!

I hate to say I told you so but..... FB isn't safe and you lay your friends and family open to abuse as well, get back to blogs and e-mails and heavily moderated boards, that's where I stayed. Also NEVER say on FB or anywhere online what you won't say anywhere else, because the world and the hackers are watching. Do NOT Go 'public' with your FB page or your twitter lock all out but who you KNOW. 'Followers' are STALKERS and collect your links mostly.

MM,
I'm going to agree with you on this. FB used to be a great site for awhile. Right now, things are really bad and this person is ripping through the deaf community really bad. DO believe a lawsuit will eventually take FB by the throat and eventually, the great site will be done in by that as well as hackers. Seriously, I have tried to reach FB for some comments but they said "talk to legal dept please".
So are they concerned? I don't think so. Keep watching. It'll eventually make the news later.

yep, sounds like there's a lot of deaf related scams going around. Couple weeks ago, someone had made a fake profile (stealing name, info and photos from an actual profile) and kept telling me she and friends won money from a "deaf lottery!" and she was shocked I hadn't heard of such a lottery. But a quick google search brought up an article about this "deaf lottery" scam (deaf guy in the UK was scammed), so I immediately blocked this scammer and changed my password just to be on the safe side.

this hacker is at it again !1 this is what he sent me "Hello, how are you doing? I'm very happy today and i want to know if you are happy too because i got $200,000.00 delivered to me from the deaf help commission and i saw your name and the lady told me you won too. if you have not gotten money email the lady on imffreefund@yahoo.com to claim your money. it is real and i got it already her name is Rosemary Reed." disguised as one of my facebook friends . Just thought i'd update ;) After chatting in fb chat with this person they convinced me to email unfortunately they were very convincing at first then i tripped them up by asking for a phone number and asking personal questions only my real friend would know...of course they couldnt answer correctly and no phone number was given for me to call...ive never seen any warning about this so they did manage to get my phone number (cell) /address and name and of course ONE of my email addresses. Hope this doesnt mean bad news for me ???!! sincerely TL

Terri-Lee: You may want to monitor you cell phone bill and change your facebook password. Also talk to your friend too, since it was her acount that was cloned. You may want to put a credit fruad alert on any credit accounts you have and monitor that as well. We have been posting for many months about this scammer on facebook and this person is still ripping through facebook and hurting a lot of people. It may have to take a major lawsuit for facebook to wake up before it gets too late.

I would like to apologize to the deaf community,Someone is using my DECEASED father's Name and likeness to try and scam his friends and family. Does anyone know how I should handle this since FB reporting is a joke.

Nick B:
The first thing you should do is not only report it to FB, but inform all your father's family and friends. Second, since FB reporting is a joke, contact your local State Police cyber crimes division. Tell them what's going on in FB and give them plenty of details. Some times, you may have to get the FBI involved as well. Make sure all of your father's credit stuff has been cancelled. Anyone who used a dead man's image is a sick person.

(blog owner, I signed in with the wrong email. please delete the previous message) Hiya guys... I came across this site after sending an email to yahoo and decided to google that one email address that scammer was using, and came across this blog. I just wanted to let you guys know that someone came up with an impostor site of me on Facebook and friended up with a lot of my friends, and about 1/4 of them are deaf. That impostor then started to bug my friends about the deaf lottery and the unclaimed money for the deaf. I have had friends call me and ask me if I was online, I would tell them no, but ask my friend to ask that person a question that only my friend and I know the answer to, and my friend would ask and the person would disappear. It took a while for me to get rid of that impostor, but I am happy that he is gone. I have just sent Yahoo an email asking them to delete the yahoo email account that the impostor created, and the email account had my name on it. I also told Yahoo that I am the only person with that name and the way I know is that I have been doing an extensive family tree project. Anyways, I am glad that I have won this battle and that my name is not being abused anywhere (for right now...).
