Elephants, Rhinos, Lions, and Tigers, OH MY!

G'day Everyone!

I know that my title post sounds so much like a circus theme today. But after last night's experience at the Lycoming County Fair seems the correct thing to describe the VERY HEAVY Thunderstorm. I knew it was going to storm when I got to the fair at 7pm. But reading the sky that was darkening it had "BAD" written all over it. My mistake! It was a DOWNPOUR YOU WON'T FORGET FOR A LONG TIME storm! My other mistake was keeping my hearing aid on! *augh* Not funny. It was kind of having a senior moment when you are having fun after a long day. Don't worry. I came prepared a bit. I had my umbrella which is one of those HUGE Gallaudet University umbrellas. Golfer's umbrellas. Much to say, I had some jealous stares when I'm walking with a big one.

Not long after I got to the fair, I walked straight to the seafood shack which is NEW this year. I ordered a dozen steamed clams. Oh man, I loved these clams. When I asked the owner of the seafood shack where he got these clams, I had expected them to be coming from the local seafood market. Instead he tells me he gets them STRAIGHT from Maine! I didn't bother to ask HOW he got them from Maine, but the appreciation of having clams straight from the docks of Maine harbors makes it a sweet summer moment. Totally delicious stuff. I asked him if he's coming back for next year's county fair. He said "catch up with me at the Bloomsburg, PA Fair (Pa State fair) and I'll let you know".

After that, I continued to walk on a bit, as I was on a surf and turf theme dinner night, I found the Beef Pit. The roast beef sandwich was very EXCELLENT! I was told that they had just sliced it a short time ago and were in hopes of selling it off before the storm hit. I told them to do what they can do.

While I sat down to eat, it began to rain lightly. Then it fell heavy. AND THEN.. yeah, there's another then, IT POURED SO HARD, I couldn't believe it. I was in a tent shelter that was fairly dry. Some one said "this isn't your average Cats and Dogs raining!" I said "More like Elephants, Rhinos, Lions, and Tigers, OH MY storm!". We did a double take and then realize that if a tornado hit now, we'd be going to OZ without Toto. Thankfully, no tornado hit.

I managed to angle my umbrella and my hat to protect my hearing aid but even so, that was risky. I could feel my shoes being WET all the more and realized that there was a chance a stray rain drop could hit my hearing aid. I ducked into a building where I knew an owner of a stand there. I asked if he had a plastic bag and he gladly gave one to me. I took my hearing aid off and wrapped it up tightly in a double bag. It wasn't water proof but it would protect it. I held that bag so tight to me, I was afraid of losing it.

The fair closed early, fireworks cancelled, and had to cross and go through puddles and ponds. I thought for a moment I saw an image of Noah's ark floating somewhere in the darkness of the farm fields. I did a double take and said "nah, I've just had a long day". Driving home in the dark and rain is not always fun. But at least I made it with my hearing aid still working! :-)

As the Lycoming County Fair wraps up this weekend, I also have weekend plans as well. You ask me what's my plans? Sorry, I'm being tight lipped on this one. I will say that I will have an enjoyable weekend. I hope you will also have an enjoyable weekend too.

So till next post
God bless and SEMPER FI!
