G'day Everyone.
It is not a good day to be an automaker out there. Worse, it is not a good day if you are a member of the United Auto Workers union out there.
Last night, the money tap was finally closed off. The tax payers where cheering like crazy and we still are. Bush and the GOP are split at this point in time. I really think the GOP had to make this decision in a very crucial way.
Now, if the auto makers do fail and take all the jobs with them, then the blame of failure doesn't fall far. It's not just the CEOs, but UAW that has made so much money off them. So now, what happens? Watch out for the stock market. Brace for another worker take over of factories that demand compensation for the lay offs. Will the take overs end in the same way as it did in Chicago or will there be arrests of workers trespassing in a plant that's no longer theirs?
This was a long way in the making. This is the recession. When people don't buy the new cars, and there is so much surplus of new cars, this becomes a bad situation. Some car dealers have seen the writing on the financial wall and dumped their dealer ship completely. Some other car dealers have merged to hope to survive this recession.
Whatever happens to the auto industry, they knew it was coming and a bail out they will NOT get. They're on their own in their own mess of things.
Does it sound like the beginning of the end for Detroit? Yes. Similar to Rochester, NY when Eastman Kodak and Xerox both downsized their companies. If the auto makers were to downsize and merge to make a new company and a quality car, that could be profitable.
I feel bad for many of the related workers that are a part of this industry. But you can't ignore of what you see coming and get the hell out.
Obama is going to have to deal with this mess after he's in place. I wish him good fortune on this.
As of this point, I'll be blogging later today. Please be praying for a friend of mine. He's still in surgery. Thanks.
Semper FI.
