I actually think the person should be arrested and thrown in Jail for not protecting the Laptop or protecting what they are doing at work. The only way an outside person would know about that Laptop is from the inside on a word of mouth about it. There was no way that we alumni were aware our data was place on a laptop. NTID knew about the data being place on the Laptop but they failed to guard and protect that Laptop. They could have locked the laptop nightly in a vault to protect the data on the laptop. They failed to do their job. It is going to take a very long time for them to gain our trust until after laptop is recovered and that data is place elsewhere not within a reach of anyone but the adminstrator and important people. No one else should have had access to those files. I hope the laptop is recover sooner than later.

You need to calm down and look at the whole picture, rather than become overemotional over this and make speculations.

I think that it is very harsh to say that the trust is gone solely on the basis of a stolen laptop. This is like punishing the whole NTID for the mistake of the only one person.

Let the people at RIT do their job as best as they can do. At the same time, we should do our part as well (i.e. monitoring credit report).

you're assuming that whoever stole that laptop knew there was critical information on it. i think it's far more likely that this laptop was left unattended somewhere and some other person took it, not realizing what was on it.

and hopefully that person won't know what to do with the information on that laptop...eek.
